He is a work horse, constantly mixing it up which annoys defenders and drags them out of position. This therefore has a secondary effect of creating space for other players. We have seen this already with Noone, Whittingham, Bellamy and even Cowie hitting the back of the net.
Im not saying he had a factor in all of the goals but his addition to the team is vital. This is a guy with experience in getting out of this league. He led the line for QPR which left Taarabt time on the ball to work his magic and he did it numerous times and got promoted. Whittingham is doing exactly the same this year and its working a treat for us.
Helguson may not be a clinical striker or someone who plays football that is easy on the eye but he does all the dog work. He works hard for the team and he makes sure he hassles defenders. He is the type of striker we have needed for a while. Bothroyd whilst good on his day often spelt a lot of it on the floor which then meant the opposition team could play out of the back pressure free whilst Jay tied up his laces and cried to the referee.
Helguson is the type of experienced striker Velikonja and Mason should be looking up too. Mason works hard already for the team and will chase down everything and Velikonja will need to be a physical player and mentally strong if he is to cope in this league. Helguson has been there and done that.
There is a reason we are not conceding so many stupid goals at home now and that is because we are solid and pressurising from the front. Under Jones the ball kept coming back and when were in the lead against other teams they would just be allowed attack after attack. Now they have to work for their attacks and they have struggled to break us down much so far.

The original post is spot on and so is Mr Chuckle.
At last we agree on something.
But then again I always felt we would be able to one day, and you probably didn't.

I just have strong feelings on the rebrand ... But Helguson was superb on Tuesday night. He's the sort of player that goes unnoticed by many.

dont be dense.
its not about weather someone likes/dislikes a footballer, but how one person can claim others havent got a clue about football for having a different opinion

I am neutral, but
THE FACT THAT HE SCORED DOES NOT MAKE HIM A GREAT PLAYER

Yep those who slated Helguson must feel like a right tw*t right now..but I am sure they are all happy and pleased for him because he scored two for us and top of the table

3 points against a team we have struggled against for decades and all because of his positioning. Those 3 points could be vital come the end of the season.

Everyones pleased but i dont feel like a tw*t because a man earns 12k per week for putting a ball in the net and he done that twice from 3yards, thats his job, the same as a defender is to defend

People have a right to their opinion and there are different ways to play football with not one being the right way. So the only thing we can go off is what Malky is asking him to do and is he doing it, Malky appears happy so I assume he is. 3 goals from 7 shots is pretty clinical with 42.9 % of his shots going in. 40% of the games played he's played a part in a goal, he's looking effective from a stats point of view.

I fully back him.
Even one of the Blackpool defenders said he was tough to beat in the air.
His experience will benefit the team a lot.
He will need to be dropped for a game or two just to regain fitness maybe.
With the team we got it's always good to have someone like him with his experience which will benefit other players.
