Wales boss Coleman sets Craig Bellamy ultimatum over international future
By Chris WathanOct 5 2012

Will Craig Bellamy play for Wales again?
Wales boss Chris Coleman has handed Craig Bellamy a 48-hour deadline to decide on his international future, telling the Wales star: "You're either with us or you're not".

As we revealed on WalesOnline last night, Bellamy is set to pull out of the latest Wales squad for the matches against Scotland and Croatia, casting major doubt over his future with the national side.

The 33-year-old, who has played two games in the last week for Cardiff City, is set to miss Saturday's clash with Ipswich but Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay this morning admitted he has no idea whether Bellamy will feature for Wales.

And Coleman, who saw Bellamy withdraw from his last squad to take on Belgium and Serbia, has told Bellamy the time has come to decide whether he wants to play international football or not.

"There are a couple of spaces open in the squad, we'll have to see how we come through the weekend both physically and mentally but we need to know," Coleman said.

"If he is not coming we need to go forward, if he is staying with us great.

"The time is now. He has paid his dues and he is a terrific player, but is he in or out?

"I hope he is in but we have to know if he is ready or not ready. If he says to me, 'I'm not in because I've had enough, that is the end of it."

"If he is not in because he played Saturday and is struggling with injury, that is another thing. We can't keep talking about one player, hoping and praying. If he is not with us, we have to concentrate on other players who are.

"But we need to know if he is still involved or wants to be involved. I'll wait for a call on Sunday."

Cardiff boss Mackay earlier claimed Bellamy had suffered a minor knee injury against Birmingham City on Tuesday night, but he insisted his star summer signing will be back for the clash with Nottingham Forest.

"Craig took a knock to a knee during the match against Birmingham City and won't be with us in Ipswich," Mackay said.

"It's nothing serious and we would expect Craig to be available for our first match after the international break (Nottingham Forest away, Saturday, October 20).

"Tommy Smith and Jordon Mutch are close to being available, but both are doubtful for our match at Ipswich.

"Rudy Gestede is in the squad who have travelled."

I can see this being the end of CB39's Wales career.

I can see Coleman's point of view, but he's injured! He won't feature on Saturday so it's not as if he choosing to not play for Wales.

Re: Coleman issues Bellamy with Ultimatum

I think Coleman has a point here but his timing couldbe better. We all saw Craig take a bang on Tuesday night but is it really the right thing for Coleman to do this before he has seen Craig or had any injury reviewed. :? Most would agree Craig is at a crossroads in his football career and he way well decide to call it a day on his international career. But surely CB deserves to have this converstion in private and not read that diatribe in the newspapers.

From the outside looking in this looks like Coleman is trying to deflect any talk about the poor start to our World Cup campaign by sacking our Captain and forcing an issue with our most experienced player.

Coleman has the same basic squad as Gary Speed but result suggest he will never achieve the same results as GS. In my opinion this is the first steps in Coleman losing the dressing room because lets face it he has lost everything else.

Where Does it say he's requested "another week off" ?

Getting time off? He took a knock during Tuesday night and isn't playing Saturday. All the other players not selected will be given "another week off"

You going to blast them too? Thought not.

No he doesn't? At the end of the day - he's got a bad injury and cannot play a massive mount of games. We have to accept that.

You're having a go at an injured player for not playing for Wales? That's ridiculous.

Re: Coleman issues Bellamy with Ultimatum

Fri Oct 05, 2012 11:06 am

I hope Craig keeps his cool and privately explains to that tosser Coleman that he is injured, thus cannot play.

Then when we get smashed in our next two games you will find that it is Coleman who is no longer with Wales and Bellers can resume his international career with a better manager, cos lets face it, even if Annis took over he'd be better than this clown!

Publicly questioned an INJURED PLAYERs commitment to the cause?

The guy is clearly clueless - if he has any questions, he should speak to the player about it in private.

I'd tell Coleman to shove it.

Really?

So can I retire on full pay now and just say I'm having problems? Seems a gray area to me.

What's that got to do with Bellamy you numpty. What part of KNEE INJURY are you not quite grasping.

But in answer, if you had an injury and could not work, yes you would receive the pay that you are entitled to via your Employee / Employer contract which varies and may be as little as SSP (Statutory Sick Pay to you).

Mind you, with your mentality I'm surprised you have a job.

Strong statement from a man who needs all the support he can possibly get. Chris Coleman is an absolute joke and I still don't see how he got the job.

The man applied for the job at the same time as Gary Speed and failed. So what makes him fit for the job and not a step backwards months down the line after Speed's death.

Absolute joke.

If you took time to read my love, the message I quoted did not specify to bellamys situation, he said problems in work.

As for bellamys knee injury, he's as injured as gareth bale was when he went on spurs pre season tour.

Coleman need to sort the wheat from the chaff, anyone not committed to the cause then f**k off. Good m him, should have been done years ago. Too many of our players treat the international scene as an effort.... About time.

Craig should tell him where to go. I saw an interview with Coleman the clown this morning where he explained his decision to take the captaincy from Ramsey and give it to Williams. Said something like "Making the change because what was working before isn't working now" Ummmmmmmmm could that be around the time he took charge? Welsh FA are a bunch of total fuckwits giving him the job with his even more useless entourage. Rambo called it right when he said give the job to Dutch Ray!!
