never felt so low !

I had to sign on this morning and I have never felt so low in my life, I've worked ever since I left school and today was the first time I'd had to sign on (lost my job) and it was degrading, any one else had to do this ? Do you feel the same ? How do you stop this low feeling

walk in to every bar, shop, building site, brothel in your area and beg for another job, anything got to be better than nothing.. f*cking soul destroying mate being out of work, i feel for you.. Especially the state on the economy and lack of jobs,.. get back out there and dust urself off

I had to do it two years ago mate. Never felt so low everyone in there stunk if piss n vodka. I just looked around thinking I hope people don't think I'm one of them. Couple of weeks later I signed off through embarrassment. Luckily I got a job shortly after. Stick with it though mate. No matter how shit it feels the money will help don't do what it did. Only been unemployed for 3 months since leaving school but those 3 months were not good . Keep your chin up and try to stay positive .

right mate.....lets get this straight now......your not a dole bum.....your signing on......work is in short supply,and many, many people sign on,you have paid into the system so you are entitled to have some back....right then,you go down next time and sign on,and for f@ck sake dont give up,go to the job center,knock on doors,do whatever you got to,,,back in 1985 i was an unemployed electrician,just out of apprenticeship,no work about,i used to drive around all building sites asking,and then i got lucky on a job i just walked onto...so dont give up..

I struggled to find work when I moved to Wales and laughed at my wife when she suggested mcdonalds,Im still there 2 years on,it has its moments but could be a lot worse and it sure beats the dole queue
Might be an idea to apply online plus you could always leave if something better comes up

See it as withdrawing your insurance policy , youve put so much into state now you are getting out your rewards . Trust me you wont be unemployed for long , register with every agency , send cv`s everywhere - even supermarkets for xmas - youll be fine - heads up mate

The first time is the worse then the following weeks you will only be going in for a couple of minutes every two weeks.
It never really bothered me but then I've never had to sign on for long as I've found jobs pretty quickly.
Keep applying as plenty of shops should be taking on for Xmas

the money was shit but the hours were great, good luck on the job hunt

I've been out of work 8 weeks now same as you I lost my job I got laid off. I've applied for numerous jobs, many without even a reply so it is hardwork. Managed to finally get an Interview next Tuesday with Royal Mail for Xmas casual staff. May be just a few weeks work but put your name forward with all the big superstores etc their bound to be taking on extra staff any time soon ready for Christmas

Signing on is a fashion up merthyr or being on the sick, milking the system is all they do, theres a guy down the road from me got a new car, hols twice a year with his family all while claiming Disability money yet hes running about like usane bolt when his grandkids are there on a weekend any other day hes limping down the shops with a poxy walking stick it really makes my blood boil, the trouble is lot of people know they will be worse off working legit with a family and a few kids so theres no incentive for them to work for £6 an hour or whatever it is these days if there having everything free off the system and more than what it is working, thats why the systems all to f**k we got 100s being layed off daily around wales only for them to go on the benefits system so thats another strain again. Ten people applying for the same job on an average ratio. Its a total mess out there rite now so i feel for them in any of these positions. Whats worse is theres f**k all out there yet people call them lazy, spongers and all sorts when most want to work.

With you mate. Been out since August first time since 1981. Keep your head up. there will be dark days as well as good.

Keep your brain active, go for walks and apply for anything that you find that you can do.

I'm coming from an industry that's on its arse. so having to look outside the box.

This may be a controversial comment but I am a firm believer that the dole is a chance to claim back a small percentage of the obscene tax you have to pay. It's not your fault you lost your job. It's no reflection on you. I signed on a few years back but kept my head held high because I knew I'd find a job and I knew it was technically my money I was getting back anyway.

Don't ever let the world or other people's perceptions of you change who you know you are. End of. The world is a tough place right now so if you need to go on the dole to get by for the time being then so be it. You'll find something soon enough and it's just your money you're claiming back anyway.

Don't know where you live or if you have transport but I think City Link in Taffs Well are taking on,my mate just got a job with them working nights in the warehouse,I am sure you have to go through an agency but worth giving them a call especially with Christmas approaching.
Any chance we can have a section for people to post any jobs they know about it can only help fellow fans.....no job,no cash,no games.

But in all seriousness I hope your able to find something soon buddy keep the faith and be pro-active hit all the agencies and Im sure you will get something if even to help tick you over for the short term

I did about 2 years ago. Nothing to be ashamed off. It does leave you feeling a bit shit though.

I hated how unprofessional the place was. Some of the staff were pricks. Others where great though to be fair.
