Every season Cardiff start well then blow up!!

Wed Oct 03, 2012 7:11 am

I heard this once on radio driving home from game last night, and once this morning on radio to work , Does my head in, as if they want us to fail. I probably think this every season but I do believe that this year is different, Couple of players out injured, and strong bench, Squad is a lot stronger this season, only negative if I have to pick one is Helgusson going to score enough goals but hopefully if this is a problem in Jan we'll recruit 8-)

Talks port last night spoke of us "blowing up" in February.

They don't have talk some shite - quite clear to me that last season we had too small a squad and over-achieved. That's not called bottling it!

Only Blackpool have scored more goals than us. If fans keep watching Helguson to see him
score goals, well they will be disappointed. Thats not his role. His job is to tie up defenders,
hold the ball up, make space for our midfielders to attack.

We've played 9 and have had 9 different goalscorers.

Helguson is not pretty - but right now he is very effective :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

they arent really wrong though are they?

we have been in this and similar positions for the last 5 seasons and still find ourselves in this league.

Under Jones - yes.

Under Malky - we didn't "bottle it" we were just a too small a squad who had played far too many games with the Carling Cup run and overachieved into a playoff spot.

We didn't bottle it against West Ham - they were simply much better than us.

Strength in depth is key, we have that now and who knows we could strengthen again in January if we are unlucky with injuries. The club has prepared itself, we are going up!

You cannot get away from the fact that we end seasons poorly. However, this is usually due to the squad quality.

Some things seem to be a given. We start a season well, we do not strengthen good enough in January and we fade away (not blow up)

I was hoping for a poorer start to the season and then us come through the pack for a change, but we are doing the same again. This is our best start to a Championship season bar the season we stormed to the top and were flying at the end of October only to not even make the play offs.

We will break the cycle this year by buying well in January, if we don't again, we deserve what may come.

difference though mate, is we have the depth there, last season we had to heavily rely on cowie who played every minute, there were times when we had to use joe ralls and a time with no out and out striker.

we have the depth there this time, not only in numbers but quality too. we have tommy smith and mutch to come back in and im sure if we need 1 or 2 additions in january for the final push, im betting we will get them as well.

come march/april we will be better prepared and equipped than the same time last yr without the added games of a carling cup run.

id also look at playing the following players during the fa cup game in january.

lewis, nugent, kiss, conway, ralls, cowie, kimbo, velikonja, rudy etc.. bit of game time for them and resting key players.

the difference to what though? i dont disagree with you.

but the topic was about how pundits say we always start well and fade...... which we do, we cant really deny it. Sometimes its down to bottle, sometimes we just arent good enough, but thats the way its been recently, cant really have a go at pundits for pointing this out.

I think it can be justified by both sides of the spectrum. We have overachieved to get in the positions to bottle it is what i think.

No matter if you overachieve, when you are in that position with just a few games to go, then no matter what the squad size is you got to get your head in it and graft like crazy. I sometimes thought the players were to comfy. Didnt actually realise how different there lives would be if they got promoted.

But honestly apart from the season with chops, bellers, JB, etc i think we have overachieved, as we built a brand new team near enough each year, but that year we definitely bottled up.

This year we have a good squad, a chairman to back it up and i genuine expectations before the season to go up

i agree with what your saying in relation to the pundits etc...

we should never have lost against blackpool , but thats how it was, last yr though, we just burnt out, too small a squad and our failure to strengthen in jan and our competition all doing this lead to our downfall.

if we lose a player through injury etc, this yr, we have quality cover to come in a replace, something we havnt had over he last few seasons. the pundits should realise this, weve added around 10 players this yr and 6 or 7 of these are quality players.

time will tell i suppose but rest assured we are better prepared.

Agree with that, he does a lot of work that takes the pressure off the others. We need more than the attacking skills of Bellamy, Whitts and Noone. Have to offer something different and Helgusson does that.

Exactly loads of people knocking Helguson and to be honest i think they are just fickle and looking for the proverbial scapegoat we seem to crave here .
