Mason tonight.

Did well tonight but why was he playing on the wing before cowie came on!!!!
He isn't fast enough for the wing.
Something I will say though, he had a munching tackle on him and he got straight back up before the whistle was blown and just stretched and carried on. I like that for a young player, just wants to play, none of the rolling around crap.

Mason got past the left back on pleny of occasions using pace but his crosses could have been better.

His ball control and dribbling is spot on, they reckon in training no one can get the ball off hi, and you can see why. :ayatollah:

It was a bold selection by malky,he tried joe out wide on a few ocassions last season and it didnt work for me
The lad is still growing and hes a lot stronger physically than last season,he played well last night and gave the brum defence a lot more to think about than if cowie had been there

Mason and Bellamy do interchange (i.e. one plays striker the other winger then swap over) which is a great thing to have and keeps the opposition guessing.

I really think young Joe could play any where he is a real diamond.

I think I would still rather have Kimbo on the right instead of Mason purely because Kimbo seems better on the defensive side of things but still has the fitness to get up and down the wing. Mason is class and it's a shame but Bellamy and Helguson are the main front two right now. Mason for the last 20 minutes for Bellamy would be fine though.

I am not negative the kid is a talent, but he does not do it on the wing in a 442.

The dilemma is where to play him, he is not strong enough for the Helguson role, and not quick enough for the maynard/ bellamy role, to me he sits behind the striker linking the attack. His technique is excellent as is his striking, but with Helgason's lack of pace and mobility his football intelligence is wasted. With the pace on the wings I can't wait to see Rudy and Mason heading a 442.

It's interesting to hear how people differ in their opinions on football. I thought mason was poor this evening, should of buried the chance that fell to him after Bellamy was taken out. Also had a couple of chances to get a shot off and test butland but was too slow. Well off the pace IMO.

I have to agree with this, I'm a big fan of Mason and felt he would be a replacement for Maynard, his positional play is awful defensively, when in that wide role. I feel Conway, Kimbo or Cowie should play out on the right before Mason, admit he did well occasionally on the ball last night and on another night would have scored a couple of goals.

He certainly should have finished that chance.

Thought he did ok though and his pace doesn't matter really when u have Bellamy upfront and pulling Into the channels.

I agree with these comments as well.
Im a huge fan of Mason but he's not a winger. I see Mason in an old fashioned striker role.
When he was scoring goals last season he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time. He's neither quick like maynard or stong like helgarson so hes down the pecking order in our current set up.

I would have like to have seen Conway playing on the right last night personally.
