" We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 6:59 am

The loss of Maynard in my opinion is a big loss to our first team, we need a target man and with the departures of Keinan and Earnie, the savings from them two is about £30,000 plus a week, so we have the money and I honestly believe we should act now and bring a loan target man in,it was a target man that we were missing so badly in the past,my strong opinion.

Or do some of you think Joe Mason can do the job ?

I agree Annis, even though we have Mason ( who I rate ) and Velikonja, we need to keep out strength in depth.

In full agreement Annis ,still think we need to bolster the back four too ! Malky's cleared the decks so why wait until we pick up injuries! Failing to plan is planning to fail !

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:15 am

Agree with you Annis, with Bellers unable to play every game we are 1 more injury away from a big problem. With Earnie and Keinan off the pay roll we need to bring in cover.

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:16 am

I hope that initially, he gives Mason a crack up there.

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:22 am

Just for clarification, Earie on a season long loan [official], but nothing official about Keinan, unless iv'e missed something?
How long left on their contracts??

Agree with the replacement for NM,,,,but i got a feeling our club might wait until the January transfer window opens.

It's a difficult decision for sure . IMO asking Mason and the Etien to continually warm the bench while they see other players brought in above them is taking the piss. If they are not good enough then let's release them and get someone in who is . We have all talked up our squad so lets see how good it is now .

If we had stakcs of cash then we would have another two defenders in i would have thought, so i carnt see others comming in because maynard is out as we have other options to go with now but lets hope we have not spent up :?: then again we got 7million left to spend of the 15million trasnfer kitty if im rite going off what carl said :ayatollah:

£30k + a week. How did you calculate that?

One door closes and another one opens as the saying goes. Bad news about Maynard but this opens the door for both Velikonja and Mason and in Joe Mason we know we have a player who can score at this level.

This season we have Whitts, Bellamy, Noone, Mutch, Smith, Conway, Kim Bo available to create chances for our forwards and I think even Rudy would score goals in this team. ;)

Great opportunity for both Etien and Joe so for me yes Maynard is a big loss but we still have lots in this squad to step up. As for a target man in my opinion there are few better than Helguson at this level even at 35 years of age.

Maynard hopefully will be back early in the new year, a tear to ACL is better than a rupture, so come the new year it will be like having a new £3m signing.

Bad news but not a disaster.

I'd go with this for now.

No need for a replacement, Maynard is not a target man anyway.

We have Smith, Mason, Etien, Bells, Helguson and Gestede who can play up front, whats the point in getting a player in for 90 days?

Would love us to go for kenwynne jones. On his day hes unstoppable and amazed hes available for loan. He would ruin this league

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 7:54 am

We know that Malky will only want his own type of player - there won't be any knee-jerk reaction.

We will probably play 4-5-1 more often than we would have before, but Malky was always likely to do that against Palace away and Blackpool anyway.

We don't need to act NOW, because we may already have the answer within our own squad with Velikonja who needs to be given a chance.

However, with all of the midfield talent we have, I see a lot of 4-5-1 ahead - get used to it people.

Agree guess million dollar question is who ? who is quality and isnt getting into a Prem team ?

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:10 am

But not sure if we could get a loan better than Mason, Prem target allegedly. I know different types of players etc but think we should not panic until Jan

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:12 am

two names that have been mentioned on here are Kenwyn Jones and Fraser Campbell.

Id be happy with either of those untill Jan

Step up Earnie !! - :? :?

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Totally agree Annis! But who do we look for in the loan market that will give us the same or better quality to Maynard? Nothing comes to mind.

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:19 am

kenwyne jones wud be a class loan signing

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:31 am

U lot moan when we play hoofball.....what do u reckon we will play if we sign Kenwyne Jones, how is he a replacement for a quick, direct striker???

You just want a signing for the sake of it, we have 6 strikers still.

Re: " We have the money, so we must act now "

Fri Sep 21, 2012 8:36 am

Agree with the target man role, bringing all our fluid attacking talent into play, been missing since Bothroyd left but how else does Velikonja get the chance to impress and prove himself? We also have Smith Helguson and Mason who can play up top, give the above a chance up until Maynard comes back, there will be goals there. Kenwynne Jones does sound very tempting mind you!

I disagree on this one. i think we should spend the spare cash on cover at fullback.
Maynard is a runner and not a target man and think we have the perfect cover in Velikonja.

He really impressed me in pre season.

Difference with playing 4 5 1 now from last season and even the start of this season is that it turns into 4 3 3 very quickley as the two wingers are awesome and can run all day. dont think against blackpool we will play 4 5 1. we will play 4 4 2 with helgs and bellamy as the two strikers

Buy Earnie back!!!!!!!!!!!

Jokes aside the guy would of got minimum 15 goals with a run in the team. Malky's EGO tut

Maynard was bought in on transfer deadline day, I admit MM was chasing him. But MM was quite happy with the players he brought in, before Nicky Maynard, and he admitted himself that he saw Nicky as a bonus.
So we will see how good Etien is, how Joe will play in a front two. Also we have Craig Bellamy who once a week will do a job for us.
In the mean time we are saving as quoted £30,000 per week, so surely this is better used in not being spent in some sort of Knee jerk reaction, to Nicky's injury (no pun intended). If we need strengthening in January we have the funds available, as HH will also need replacing long term.
We have 5 diamonds in midfield who can all score, Whitts , Noone , Smith, Mutch and Kimbo plus Gunnar, Cowie , McPhail and Conway.
With Mason, HH, Etien , Rudy and Bellamy up front, I think they all deserve a chance, we have strength in depth now for once. 4 games to the international break if need be, take a look at it then.
Eight points from them games would be a good return,
I think we will be ok. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

On what evidence?

I did not hear of ONE other Championship club putting a bid in for Earnie.

Like Koumas, his best days are long gone

Keinan has gone to Maccabi Haifa on a season long loan;

Strange our club hasn't put out a statement although MM has confirmed it this morning.
