Cardiff City star Nicky Maynard likely to miss rest of.....

Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:52 pm

Cardiff City striker Nicky Maynard is expected to miss most of the season after scans revealed serious ligament damage in his injured knee.

The forward, a £2.75m signing from West Ham earlier this month, was stretchered off in the second half of the 2-0 win against Millwall on Tuesday night.

It was initially hoped the damage was only minor, but further scans have revealed Maynard has torn his anterior cruciate ligament, and will need surgery.

The injury will come as huge blow to Malky Mackay's squad, with Maynard having started his career at the Bluebirds in impressive form.

Cardiff City's head of performance Richard Collinge said: "He will remain under the care of a local orthopaedic specialist and the Cardiff City medical team, working through a substantial rehabilitation programme with the goal of returning to first team action when possible.

"Instances such as this can see varied recovery times and we will do everything to support and guide Nicky through the rehabilitation process.

"The player has the backing of all of us at the club and we all wish him a speedy recovery, coming back stronger than ever."

If he is out for that long then its a serious blow to our promotion bid. We never get any luck.

Absolutely gutted! This could be the diference between achieing promotion and not.

I've been researching this injury online and the absolute earliest anyone's fully recovered from this after surgery is 6 months. But it's very likely nicky will miss the rest of the season.

Get well soon nicky! I was so impressed with his performances in the last few games.

Malky needs to get somone in on loan now with nicky out, earnie gone and Gestede always injured.

When one door closes another door opens, we've brought in Velikonja and we still have Mason. One of these players has to take their chance. People have been talking about how we have strength in depth, now the team needs to prove that.

Feel really sorry for Maynard. 2nd bad injury of his career. Twats like Barton, Dyer and Brad Wright-Phillips deserve career threatening injuries for the way they act off pitch. Life is cruel at times.

Will we get a replacement in?

To be fair nicking a handbag once quite a few years back can't be compared to Barton's attitude.

And even then even he doesn't deserve a career threatening injury...

Alan Tate on the other hand... :D

Would be a huge blow.

Time for bellers and Mason to step up IMO. Then we have Etien and Helguson also.

I can't see us getting better than those on loan anyway.

Dyer and Wright-Phillips are scum. They stole from people on minimum wage whilst on 5k a week. I rest my case.

I can't begin to describe how gutted I am over this!

We was all expecting big things from Nicky when he signed, and despite not scoring, He hasnt disappointed us with his performances. I genuinely believe this injury has robbed us of at least 15 league goals this season, and I'm praying the likes of Velikonja are up to the task of filling in. Do we possibly need another striker in on loan? Im probably being a bit pessimistic here, but I don't think we can rely on Bellamy and Gestede to remain fully fit week in, week out. And that doesn't leave us with many options upfront now that Earnie has left?

Anyways, enough of my selfishness! I wish Nicky all the best and a speedy recovery :ayatollah:

Thats what kleptomaniacs do regardless of their income. Some people just enjoy the buzz of getting something for free, its nothing to do with the gain but more the adrenaline rush.

Why? Maynard is a nice guy. Dyer and BWP are arseholes who are the lowest of the low. If they end up injured it is a case of karma.

So two guys make one mistake in their lives by doing something daft and therefore deserve career ending injuries?

Whilst you're entitled to your opinion, that is a ridiculous statement that is beyond reason.

So if Dyer nicked off you or your family you'd say he's a klepo, bless him etc.... The fact that the jacks hero worship him proves what a bunch of arses they are. Anyone who lives a decent life deserves to be treated well. Those who treat others like shit deserve misfortune.

Okay NJ73-you go out for the night and a group of chavs steal your phone and wallet and ruin the evening. What should happen to them?

They should be punished to the full extent of the law and hopefully then not commit further indiscretions. The same as Dyer and Wright-Phillips.

Why would I want them to be unable to earn a living in their chosen profession? That's just weird.

Not saying they shouldnt earn money as footballers but life is very unjust when decent honest pros like Maynard (you could Ferrie Bodde to that list along with numerous others) get injured whereas scum like Dyer Dyer/BWP/Barton have good careers with no injuries.
