Malky's centre half dilemma

Wed Sep 05, 2012 8:33 am

THE Bluebirds boss once dubbed Turner as a Cardiff City legend in the making, which shows how highly he rates him.

Left-footer who slots in comfortably on the left-hand side, he offers height and stature City have lacked in this department previously.

Echo verdict: When everyone is fit and push comes to shove, he will be Malky’s first pick of the three.

MARK HUDSON

MANY City fans have still to be convinced about Hudson, but there is no doubt he has played his best football with the Bluebirds under Mackay’s watch.

More dominant these days, less prone to error, he is also a genuine goal threat at City’s own set-pieces.

Echo verdict: It will be between him and Connolly for the berth next to Turner. As captain, Hudson will expect to be in pole position.

MATT CONNOLLY

MACKAY believes his capture from QPR has made a solid beginning to his Bluebirds career. Strong in the air, which is what is needed first and foremost from a centre-half at this level.

Connolly has played in two successive Championship title-winning teams, first QPR and then briefly for Reading.

Echo verdict: Will probably be the unlucky one to miss out when Turner is fit, but in time he will push skipper Hudson hard for his starting place.

After Sunday, I think the onus is on Turner to force his way back in. Hudson and Connolly worked really well together and were always looking to distribute the ball.
Whils I think Turner is a good centre half, his instinct is to lump the ball forward, which really won't suit us if we continue to set up the way we did against Wolves.

How about Connolly at left full back instead of Taylor ??

With seven subs, it should be easy to keep three centre halves happy and match fit, besides for injuries suspensions etc.

Great problem to have. :old:

That would be what I would look at if I was Malky. Taylor is the weak link at the back at the moment.

my first choice CB pairing would be hudson and turner, but at the moment, i dont think you can drop Connelly.

Although Taylor's defending at times can be questionable, he's a decent passer and can contribute going forward down the left. I can't see Connolly having the same effect. He's definitely better at CB

Three centre-halfs is not enough - I think I would have a better chance of selection than Keinan at the moment - if injuries and suspensions come into play later in the season (which they will) we are looking very light in that dept! Might aswell bring Gabbidon back seen as he's a free agent :ayatollah:

Turner should now wait for his opportunity as Hudson and Connolly do not deserve to be dropped. Also Connolly is a better footballer than Hudson in my opinion. :ayatollah:

Connolly is obviously a thinking player, fast and good on the ball. the perfect foil for
the big, strong ball-winning Centre Half.

Perfect for EITHER Hudson or Turner
