I spent 10 years in Germany whilst serving in the British Army!
I also played football for several German teams and a large proportion of the younger Germans speak English, whilst the elder ones didn't speak English as much!

Okay cheers for the information. What I expected to be honest but thought I'd ask. Looks like I'll go ahead with it. Looks a lovely country and can go and watch some Bundesliga football and learn about another culture.![]()

Where are you thinking of going to?
Dortmund, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Berlin, Essen - Any of the big cities where I can get a placement really.

Been to all those cities and would recommend Munich over all the others!
Essen is very industrial as its part of the Ruhr industrial region, Dortmund was very militarised the last time I was there, although I believe all the British military have now moved out!
Berlin is okay, along with Stuttgart, but whilst all the cities have their plus points, Munich and Bavaria is stunning, very cultural and would be my preferred destination! Dachau concentration camp is worth a visit, along with Schloss Neuschwanstein, but the Bavarian Alps are a must, as they are absolutely beautiful!

You should be able to get by well with English as alot of people speak it but its always better to start with some German before asking if they speak english. Its a general respect thing and youll get loads of bonus points for it.
If you can get to a few Bundesliga games then do it, you wont be disapointed. The atmosphere is MUCH better than any ground in the UK. They still have Terraces and the Tickets are cheaper here. Youll get a season ticket for about 120€.
I always go to see city when im back in Wales but end up sitting alone because by father and brother have season tickets.
The FA should really wake up, terraces work all over Europe without any problem at all. Why not in the UK? You cant even take flags in fffs![]()

Why pathetic? It's true. We also stationed thousands of troops there after the war defending them from the Russians.

I was lucky to learn German in school (tried French, just couldn't do it!) and it's easy to pick up. If in doubt, just say the English version of the word in a German accent!
Best of luck with whatever you choose to do. It's a life-changing decision.
would like to know if many people speak English
Do me a f*cking favour. A random guess would tell most people that lots of young
people in Germany speak English. He's planning to go there to work, through Uni,
and hasnt any idea if he'll have anyone to talk to so he posts on here???
Attention seeking c**t he is.
