Joe Mason Yesterday

Mon Sep 03, 2012 6:23 am

Was it just me or did it seem that Joe wasn't his usual self when he came on yesterday?

He wasn't very sharp closing his man down and chasing after a hoofed ball? I'm not having a go at the boy as he's been a gem for us since last summer but he didn't seem his usual self.

Maybe he was carrying a knock?

Seemed fine to me when he was battling for the ball against wolves full back..

Yes that true, like I said it probably just me, he just didn't seem his usual sharp self.

It was not only you, there was something wrong yesterday, he was slow and lethargic, maybe not over his knock, if anyone says he was his normal self is deluding themselves because it's Mason, my mate and loads around us were shouting for him to chase the ball and shut down the wolves players

We wasn't looking for a winner or a goal to get a draw. He doesn't have to chase down everything.

Didn't seem to pick up the pace of the game, but he had next to no service either as we didn't seem interested in scoring by the time he came on.

Was the subject on everyones lips around me....looked a bit leggy and as has been said lethargic. In saying that I also think that Gunnarsson also looked a little slow and possibly that he'd put a bit of weight on :o

This.

At first he looked lively but the last 5 or so minutes it did seem he wasn't his usual self. Probably had a slightly tight muscle or something, nothing to be worried about :ayatollah:

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

i think he may have had a strain of something in the game, we had used all our subs, so he was probably asked to ease of a bit.

he didnt need to chase things down as we were trying to see the game out and risk further injury.

im just guessing mind, but to me it looked like that!

he should have made a effort though, malky said how you'll always see players sweating into the jersey, being proud to wear it, joe showed no effort at all, annoyed me a lot

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

He looked very poor to me.

Also those saying he didn't have to chase down things as we were ahead that didn't stop Helguson chasing everything even though he was dead on his feet by that point.

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

He's not an established player,

I dont think he should hav all this pressure on him at such a tender age and lack of experience.
my guess is he's not working hard enough, if malky mackay was willing to bring him on he must be as fit as anyone else on the bench.

perhaps all the signings have unsettled him or dishearned him

He's not an every game player

Nonsense, players should be chasing everything down if your defending a lead or pushing for a winner.
The point in closing down is to win back the ball and cause a mistake and getting the ball back is vital no matter what the score.
Helguson at 35 still managed to chase and close down despite being dead on his feet and playin the full game. Mason only had to do it for 20mins or so. He jogged about like he was to important to close down and with that attitude he will be back at plymouths level before he knows it. I was massively dissapointed with his attitude.

You could see by the looking at his face he was having a bit of a sulk.

Assuming there aren't any injury concerns I hope Malky gives him a right bollocking and drops him from the bench for a few games.

He seemed a bit slow and sluggish
Also seemed tired out

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

Can't believe that people are having a go at Joe, for what looked like one sluggish performance!

For the record, I was informed after the game that he picked up an injury soon after coming on and as we'd used up all our subs, he couldn't be replaced!

If my memory serves me right, this isn't the first time he's been injured when we've used all our subs and soldiered on!

I thought he nlooked overweight and rather slow, consider his age and just been on a break, I think though that players are told don't chase a lost cause and conserve energy.

Quite right, but why let the truth spoil this bullshit.

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

Yeah, it was obvious he wasn't his usual self. Rarely broke out of a jog which makes sense with the injury he picked up.

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

Tue Sep 04, 2012 9:09 pm

The ball was passed out straight away from the keeper and he was way out on the wing.

Re: Joe Mason Yesterday

Tue Sep 04, 2012 9:32 pm

He needed (needs) to put weight on IMO not fat, but muscle as he is not blessed with pace so bulking up on't hurt.

Strange season for Joe, not sure where he plays, ultimately I think he sits behind behind the striker but with the talent we got there will be a lot of competition for that slot.

Hes not that slow but he doesnt need blistering pace or size due to his movement on the ball. I think Malky plans to use him as an impact sub as you know he can change the game for us
