Our defence

Thu Aug 30, 2012 6:52 pm

People have been very critical of our defence lately. I totally agree with the fact we need a couple of squad additions to bolster the defensive bench but I feel we have a set of first team defenders capable of holding their own this season.

Of course Hudson makes the odd mistake but I feel he is good enough at this level and Turner is devolping into one of the leading centre backs outside the premier league. They had lots of praise last season as being a solid pair for us in many games but people seem to forget the good and focus on mistakes.

Our full backs take a hell of a lot of critisim but let's not forget that Kev has been player of the year in the past, he can do a job and Taylor is a player doing a decent job in a position that has been a worry for us for a long time.
The full backs have been forced to get forward all last season because of our lack of width, but Malky has bought well this transfer window so maybe Kev and Taylor can focus on a purely defensive role rather then doing the job of the wingers we have been missing. Maybe this will be what they need to shine for us?

Thoughts??

My opinion Connolly will force his way in instead of Turner due to his footballing ability of being able to pass the ball on the floor. All turner can do is hoof it long. :(

Taylor gets his instructions from MM, something tells me hoofing the ball over our star studded midfield won't form part of the tactical briefing!

(I hope)

Surely Turner is being told to launch it mate? Sure Malky would go toxic if he continually ignored him? :ayatollah:

if people get back quicker it makes easier life for the defender, midfielders need to support the back 4 more?

Super kev, without doubt one of best defender's, but really has to do better with the ball, Huds, definitely not vocal enough or nasty enough for me (makes mistakes like nearly everybody, thats human) tayls as pointed out to me (i do go to games, lol) does not get a lot of cover/help, but i am worried about his positional sense, leaving (out of our 1st choice back 4) turner this lad has grown on me but does have to stop spraying 60-70 yard attempted passes cross field, Connolly i do think he can push for a starting place, then its the kids ;) so for me we need player's in who can also push for a starting position

all i can say is scrap the super, hes kev. needs to upgrade his game. gives the ball away way to often,

kev hasnt been his usual standard for months, its true. Its certainly good to have another option with connelly being able to play there.

Personally i would like to see us bring in one more to sure up the back 4. I know we conceded 4 on saturday with connelly in the side, but im pretty sure we leaked goals when Turner first joined as well (3 v barnsley? and 3 v another side i think)

Still 129 points to play for this season ;)

Love Kev to bits, but maybe its time for us to see Connolly come in for him, and just have a look at the defence with out Kev in it for a game. Not only to experiment with personnel but to also get Kev back on his toes again!

Connolly-----------Hudson----------Turner------------Taylor

Cover = Kev, Nugent, Keinan.

Worth a go surely? as Connolly knows how to play full back.

Or Connolly will get Hudson's place in the team??
