Willie Anderson

Thu Aug 30, 2012 8:32 am

Do any of you remember Willie Anderson? I think he signed from Aston Villa, and I believe he was ex Man UTD, he was a great signing for our club, he signed in 1971 and was an out and out old fashioned winger, there is no better sight than a player that takes on the full back and goes inside and then outside to get the cross in for the strikers, we have missed this type of player for yrs at the City, I am realy excited at the thought of Craig Noon signing for our club, why would Brighton let this quality player leave and sign for another championship side? He was obviously sold on the vision that the owners have for this club, and that, I think is to get into the Premier league ASAP, there is no better time to be following the City, I don't care about the re/brand that will sort itself out in time, we must now look forward and get behind the team, stop this pathetic infighting that is going on umongst our supporters, without VT we would be in one hell of a mess, they are trying to sort out the historical debt and should be left alone to get on with the running of the club, it is the supporters job to support the club and have faith that VT has the best interest of the club at heart, I for one can't wait for Sunday :ayatollah: :old: :ayatollah:

Class player. He gave us pace and width in those days. He came to City in early 70's and he was an ex man Utd player. One of the best players that I have seen at City.

Over the years whenever city were in for a wide man I would think"I hope hes as good as Willie Anderson" and its no different with this lad Noone.Probably the player that got me hooked on Cardiff City.

He was our version of George Best, trying to remember the song we had for him. :old:

There was the oh Willie Willie, Willie Willie Anderson, but there was another about running down the wing, come on you oldies, help out.

Superb post and agree 100% great winger and if this lad can be half as good then we will have a beauty though being greedy I would not mind signing an albert lamour or a clive charles ;-)

Great post. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I used to love watching Willie Anderson a winger in the true sense and if Noone can get anywhere near his standard then we will have a player. There are a few similarities already like both players were from Liverpool and the club signed them on the second attempt after having their first bids rejected.

Willie Anderson was a great player, City's George Best lookalike with huge talent, the ability to beat players, put crosses in and score brilliant goals. As soon as he got the ball the crowd were on their feet buzzing with excitement.I hope Craig Noone will give us something that has been missing for many years, there's nothing better than seeing a full back being turned inside out.

Ahh, willie anderson, my second favourite city player of all time, (ian gibson was my number one) i think he came a wee bit later than 1971, more like 1973, (stand corrected if i'm wrong) what a winger, one of those players who had you on the edge of your seat as soon as he received the ball.

Christ, fogotten about that but its worth remembering that in that particular season we were no great shakes until about xmas time and I think if I remember right it was the signing of Alston that was the catylist to us being on fire for the rest of the season. Is one of the reasons why I'm not having a panic attack this season yet.

The two best wingers I've seen play for city were Willie Anderson and Barrie Jones. Jones had his career cut short by a broken leg at Blackpool in 1969, both old school wingers who would torment defenders down the flanks.

"oh Willie, Willie, ......Willie Willie Anderson" great old fashioned winger who could roast opponents and cross. :ayatollah:

Re: Willie Anderson

Fantastic winger. Quite strong and stocky with a good turn of pace. Would always tease the fullback offering the ball before a quick burst of acceleration on the outside. Would skin the fullback 9 times out of 10. Loved watching him operate. A real class act.

Best winger i've ever seen down the City, class act who could take a player on & deliver a good ball.Nothing better than watching a ball being delivered from the by-line.

Two very good players, who never fulfilled their rich potential , wasnt Villars from Cwmbran? And Rees will allways be remembered for the Madrid game

Ian Gibson signed from Coventry and I think he was the best midfield player I have seen down the City, a player that could control and dictate the Play, a real skillfull Player who woul be worth a fortune today
