stood their ground, heavily out numbered, pelted with stones, charged on numerous occassions, just kept waiking towards us.Iwas a schoolkid at the time, and i realise w.ham not going run from me,but there was plenty of well known names ,from that era that stopped short when they realised w. ham wasnt going to run

West ham , let me think. Yes that was the time, they set a motorbike on fire outside The Old Arcade, and it blew up! Yes they came with quite a big crew but not a lot happened in town before game. They brought about 30 onto corner of Bob Bank. They came down the corner by the floodlight with a very large black guy who decided to flatten a couple of cardiff guys. As the roar went up he was engulfed as B troop steamed in. They got smashed and soon got backed out. The black guy got the worst of it with one of the B brothers breaking his own leg! Don't get me wrong they were probably one of the best firms on their day. They were barbaric as we're all the London firms. As for the ninian pub I can't remember anything significant happening. Oh by the way it wasn't before the casuals either, woody as many of us were bouncing round in Lois cords, Velcro strapped trainers, woollen cycling jumpers, Pringles and leather wolf jackets. Ha ha we just come out of the skinhead era.

went to west ham that season got battered, the hardest ground i been to.

but west ham never had it all there own way, and from what i can remember
city fans got clapped for coming back the next year.

as for NP they did turn up but from what i can rember they trashed in bob bank.

from my experience west ham was the hardest place to go and chelsea were the best
away from home, but spurs had good crown out in fa cup 77/78.

but all those days gone

I was on the Bob Bank in April 80 with a mate reading a programme at half time when a mob gathered to the back of us (West ham) & they made a surge into a number of city fans & what i can remember West Ham certainly did'nt take no hiding. I had no interest in their antics but as a neutral observer there was no way did they get battered.

79/80 was in the midst of the mod/skinhead revival, so I can't remember any Cardiff wearing casual clothes in those days.

Jimmy remember the west ham trip when our coach pulled up near the Boleyn pub and the mob in front of us. Even the old bill were shitting it. They kept saying don't start singing . I thought don't worry I ain't . I think it was 1978 . When we got by the Boleyn they piled out . I remember hearing "kam on u fecking welsh slags".bit of fisticuffs in the doorway followed. Nasty horrible place. Coach was mainly Llanrumney , Trowbridge and Ely boys.

.... Well your the only one whos ever said they never took a beating . Cass pennant was not the black fella either. How long did they stay on the bob bank then. I am not saying cardiff were a match for them then. But 30 on the bob bank was a bad mistake

What i can remember it was all over within a minute but in all honesty i would never have said they took a battering & it was they who took it to the City. In all fairness though West Ham in the late 70's to early 80's were probably the best mob ever seen in Britain, when Bill Gardiner used to use his trademark ""good afternoon gentlemen, the name's Bill Gardiner" it must have sent shivers down most fans spines. They were probably the only firm to ever to take it to Millwall at the Old den in the 70's .

remember the west ham away game well, got to the pub and every thing was thrown at us, got to the ground could not wait to get in, felt safe for a min until noticed only segragation was a line of police, they were in with us going off every few mins.

the they sany there's only one way out , very frightening, after thegame game they came from every were, a lot of the coach windows put in, and the one we were on was going to Germany for the welsh game the next day.

spurs in FA cup after game, came out put straight on my arse, and then the grange end gates closed for a few mins,
then re-opened and every one piled out, the tall spurs fan in some sort arm coat who put me on my arse went straight down, but kept getting up, fair play to them they were game.

first time i went to west ham was april 1979...easter saturday i think.....we got off the coaches and walked towards the ground....they came out of the pub throwing glasses and chairs....i don't remember any fight just everyone running towards the away end....some that run back the other way didn't even get to the game.....in the ground they were in with us

next time was november 1979.....i went to the game but i can't remember any bother.....i seem to remember that adder glas coaches dropped fans in london and they had to make their own way to the ground

then october 1980....mid week game.....went up on a half empty coach....mostly filled with the barry boys....i can't remember any bother
