The 3 stand out performers during pre-season imo...

Tue Aug 28, 2012 2:03 pm

Were Joe Ralls, Filip Kiss and Craig Conway. Whittingham aside, these 3 outperformed anyone else in the team imo, yet none of these players have been given a start so far this season. Why?

Out of three I believe just Conway should be a regular starter, Kiss does seem to have taken strides but I would still place him on the bench ready to have energy to bring on in the second half, also letting Whitts push up further. I'd sent Ralls out for a few months loan, I can't see him getting a lot of game time this season, with us being knocked out of the League Cup and with a better quality bench than last year

I dont agree. He had it spot on they were excellent specially Kiss. I think he needs to start he would give Whitts more room to move up the pitch which is what everyone has been crying about. Ralls has bulked up alot and I know he is only 18 but he is excellent on the ball so I would expect him to make the bench at least.

Personally I think there was a huge contrast between our win over Newcastle and our recent loss against Bristol City. I didn't go to the Bristol game but from watching the highlights and from listening to those who went, it seemed our midfield who had a man over were outmatched and outmonovered. We were slow and pedestrian against Huddersfield and very fortunate to win. I think pace is still our main problem, Kiss has had an outstanding pre-season but against Newcastle, I felt Ralls and Conway on the wings helped give our midfield much needed pace and zip to cause problems. I feel the best we played last season was Blackpool away where we had a middle 3 of Kiss and Gunnarsson holding, Whitts further forward just behind Miller and Conway was down the left running their right back ragged. Obviously Bellamy can do the same and should be played down the left ahead of Ralls, but why Cowie is selected down the right ahead of Conway is a mystery to me. Cowie is not a winger and doesn't possess the pace or dribbling ability to beat a full back, although Cowie is a quality footballer who would be fine down the middle. But we are far too sluggish and predictable at the moment, why Whitts isn't the furthest midfielder forward when we have Kiss, Mutch, Gunnarsson, Cowie and McPhail who can hold is beyond me. It's going to be a squad effort getting through 46 games plus this season and I believe Ralls, Kiss and Conway should be featuring a lot more than they currently are with the way they stood out pre-season.

i dont think we can judge off pre season. I do think conway should be given a chance now since cowie hasnt done it, but hes going to be dropped for kim i suppose.

In pre season, you have players on teams who will just go through the motions, making sure they dont get injured, and not really wishing to put a shift in. so we cant really judge anyone. The youngsters normally put a shift in such as ralls as it is there chacne to show the manager, but its hard to tell how well they are playing when his opposite number might aswell be wearing slippers and smoking a pipe.

Never seen kim play a british type of game yet so i wont comment on if hes going to be good or bad, as we've seen far better players fail over here. But on paper its going to be him on the right, bellers on the left. so conway doesnt get a chance.

I know alot would like bellers up front, but hes not started a cf role in a league game for about 4 or 5 years so cant see that happening.

OK, if we can't judge anyone in pre-season, how about at Bristol City? Some of our players looked like they didn't care - and that hurt. I've never seen Conway play like that - pre-season or during the season.

For me, it's about effort as well as ability, hence the loud boos from the City faithful as the team went off at half-time.

I dont like booing, as we are there to support and try and help but would never tell anyone not to boo as youve paid your money.

Like i said i think conway deserves a chance, and def dont think the players didnt care. they just didnt get anything right.

Its early days. lets see whats happening 6-10 league games in.

We still dont have a squad thats settled. They need time to gel, dont agree with this transfer window, as we've finished pre season and still bringing in players.

But Arsenal were getting smashed all round the place this time last season and they still finished 3rd

Fair enough. 3rd wouldn't be good enough for us, though! It would mean the dreaded play-offs again! Please, no more!

Totally agree with this up at Blackpool last season the only thing that let us down was our finishing we really could have had 6 or 7 and Holloway commented that he felt like a burgular because they had nicked a point

In fact it was that game that i think made Malky feel that 4 5 1 was our best formation which without a doubt it could be if the right players are selected i would use Bellamy & Kim Bo wide with Whitts playing in advance of 2 holding midfield players take your choice from Gunnarson, Cowie, Mutch, Kiss or Mc Phail we would have Mason on the bench to slot into Whitts role if he's off form or injured and we would have Conway to cover when Bellamy can't play.

We have the players just have to use them correctly although i would like us to get another striker in but i trust Malky to get it right hopefully starting with Wolves on Sunday :ayatollah:

I would at this point take the play offs. There are 10 teams at least who are all in the hunt and can take points of anyone. Plus what happens if kimbo doesnt settle, bellers gets his injuries back and whitts breaks a leg? all pretty feesable
