BT / SKY ENGINEERS IN CWMBRAN AREA.....?

Tue Aug 28, 2012 1:57 pm

SKY download speeds are below 1meg.

Phone SKY, they get me crawling around, checking routers. filters, test slots..etc.

Shouldn't you be doing this? Can't?

Anyone fancy £20 to turn up, listen to SKY and action....or just check my settings?

Doing my fecking head in!!

If it's Sky broadband then it won't be your settings I wouldn't think because the router comes from them pre-configured ready to go. In fact you've got to use the router they give you because it won't work with anything else.

Some things you might like to check though.....
Try unplugging your Sky TV box from the phone line.
Make sure there are no other extensions or anything plugged in anywhere at your house.
Change the filter.
Make sure your router is plugged in to the main BT point rather than an extension that "your mate" installed for you.
Plug your pc in to the router via the Ethernet cable rather than relying on a wireless connection. Very often other devices affect the signal.
Tell everyone in the house to shut the f up, plug a standard phone (not a wireless one) in to the phone line. Dial 17070 and choose the option for quiet test. Then you'll be able to hear if you've got noise on your line or not. If you have call BT and report it as a fault, telling them you've got a very noisy line.

Do you know what speed your exchange supports?
Ask sky also what the contention ratio is on their broadband?

sky routers are known to be pretty shit. ive had problems with them both times ive had it installed in new properties and took weeks of kicking off to get anything done for very little reimbursement.

moved to my new flat this month and got bt infinity/vision this time as the line was pre fitted and my uncle is an engineer and said its banging. set it up over the phone, came as they said, all worked first time with nearly 5 times the download speed i had with sky no nonsense! :ayatollah:
