Joe Mason

Mason has to start if we are going to play well this year, the boy is absolute class and he gets goals, also Cowie isnt good enough he works hard and has an engine but he doesnt make anything happen on the pitch. I think Malky should drop Cowie and play Mason just off Helgusson and put Whitts on to the wing, because he is playing to deep, at sometimes hes almost a third centre back when hes the player for us who can make things happen further up the pitch!

If we have three centre backs how come we leak goals?

I dont get the need to bring Whitts outwide I know he did well out there under jones but that was when we were playing 4-4-2. In a 4-5-1 formation he isnt quick enough to play out wide honestly. I do agree he is far too deep but he cant play too far forward due to his movement

alexc, we didnt leak goals the first 2 games, untill we swapped our defence around in the third (admittedly due to injury) and fair enough not playing Whitts on the wing due to his pace but he needs to be pushing on, while mutch and/or gunnar could play the anchor role. And i also think when bellamy doesnt play i think Conway should have a chance because i think hes very underrated and has impressed me nearly everytime he has played.

I do agree Conway needs to play but you are right about Mason he is class. Both Huddersfield and Bristol he caused problems as soon as he came on. His movement is superb

good point on the first two games, I was beginning to think we had a terrible defence from the Brizzle reports. But then, like a lot of people have said before, if the midflield and strikers are doing the business the other team has a lot more to think about than worrying our defence...

Bristol city was just unlucky i think we should give it one more game and then decided if we need changes but i think cowie will end up being left onto the bench and joe mason coming in 'The game changer'.

We'll have to wait and see if Malky turns out to be a manager who is rigid in his thinking regarding the formation and the best players for each position. The early signs are he has made up his mind that Whitts is the best defensive midfielder (a type of quarterback spraying passes from a deep position just in front of the back four).....Helguson is the best CF and Gunnar and Mutch are our best central midfielders. The defence sort of picks itself as we've got no one else!

I hope that Malky proves he is a flexible thinker and if something isn't working he's not too stubborn to change things around.

Failure to adapt will no doubt cost him his job as his current plan doesn't seem to be working.

To me Whitts is wasted playing so deep. We all know he's got goals in him but we need to get him nearer to the attack. I'd like to see a lot more skill and pace in attack...and I'd try Kimbo and Smith out wide Whitts and Gunnar (or Kiss) in the middle with Bellamy and Mason up front. Alternatively Bellamy instead of Smith with Velikonja partnering Mason. Either way lots of pace and goal threat. :ayatollah:
