Speaking to Cardiff City Player following Saturday's game at Bristol City, new recruit Tommy Smith spoke of his excitement at signing for the Club.

"I am at a stage in my career now where I just want to play games," said the former QPR man. "It's been a frustrating last year and the opportunity came up where I could come and play here.

"Obviously I have played for Malky before (at Watford) and was keen to get back together with him. This is a fantastic club with so much going for it so it was a fairly easy decision for me. I'm pleased to get here and get going.

"Today was disappointing, but I'm sure this is just a blip. It was really disappointing today to lose in the manner we did, but I'm sure we are going to bounce back in the week and we have a big game to look forward to on Sunday against Wolves.

"The Gaffer and the lads are not happy about today at all. It was more the manner than the goals conceded really. It was a bit of a slow start today and they capitalised on that and after we went a goal down we never really came back in the first half. The second goal just before half time was tough to take; you come in at 1-0 down and it's a different proposition. I think it was just the little things today that added up and let us down.

"We have got a really strong squad here though and there seems to be a lot of talent. You need a fairly large squad at this level cause there are so many games and you pick up a lot of injuries. You need to have players who you know can cope and come in and also you need competition to make sure players keep on top of things.

"I think we probably have a bigger squad here than we did at QPR for the year we went up. You just need to be a bit lucky, hope the stronger players keep fit and make sure they only play as many games as they can. Certainly there are a lot of similarities from the squad we had at QPR and the squad we have here so hopefully if we get the right blend we can reproduce what we did then."

Seems Tommy Smith has been promised alot of first team football to me.

I don't mind that tbh though if he can keep up his performances like he played v Bristol. Thought he did well and he's a cracking player. I was chuffed when he signed, but as long as his/teams performance doesn't get complacent i'll be happy. They all need to be kept on their toes with the threat of others in the squad out to take their shirts off each others backs.

Hopefully him, bellers or mason to play a bit closer to HH and the goals will flow, esp with kimbo/conway/harris on the other side aswell, just sort out the defence and we will be flying i am sure ;)
