The stats

Sun Aug 26, 2012 9:47 am

Every team for the past 5 years that has scored more than 81 goals has gone up automatic, that is the ball park we need to score.... To date we've scored 3 in 3 or 46 for the season......

The most important stat in this division is goals scored (think Kevin Keegan)(there are a few exceptions e.g. Reading's weird season last year).

In my opinion we don't have anywhere near that in this team, compare us to Blackpool - pace out wide makes ALL the difference, we've got Don, Kimbo didn't strike me as having that in the Olympics....

My prediction for goals:

Bellers - 12
Whitts - 11
HH - 10
TS - 8
Kim - 5
Mason - 8
Others - 10

Total - 64 :-(

Come on let's get a decent striker and a pacey winger, I'll play at the back if we're short!

With this team and that kind of goals for total its 6th to 11th place again!

Unless things are changed I think you are right re 6th - 11th place. We needs to start playing some attacking football.

Einstein, you swine. I was going to do a write up on this very subject this week, talking about the amount of averaged goals scored that have seen teams promoted to the PL and the amount of goals from each department of our team to get those goals.

I think I'll still do it though

Last season we scored 1 or no goals in 60% of our games and despite the money which has been spent this summer sadly I cannot see there being much of an improvement in that statistic.

We need a striker to step up to the plate and score 20+ goals but the question is do we have that player :? We know we have a player who has scored 20+ goals twice in the last 4 years (Whitts) but sadly his attacking threat is being destroyed by playing him so deep he will soon be asking Marshall for his jersey.

We have the creativity within the squad to create chances to allow one of our strikers to get somewhere near 20 goals but for me it won't be Helguson as he has only scored 10+ goals once in the last 5 seasons.

For me Mason or Velikonja offer the best chance of a striker getting near to 20 goals but sadly it won't happen whilst our most creative players are sat on the halfway line playing tippy tappy football. Even after only 3 games I can see us repeating the stat of scoring 1 or no goals in 60% of our games this season.

And that will not deliver promotion.

You'll do it better than me (I think I need a reference in your stats UPDATE), but the goals scored stats are much stronger than goal difference for promotion...
