WHY PLAY A 35 YEAR OLD STRIKER UP FRONT ON HIS OWN WHO SCOR-

Sat Aug 25, 2012 6:47 pm

my view is
he's playing a 35 year old striker up front on his own who scores 1 goal in 4 / 5 games if that, on average, no pace, old legs.
when you reach 35 your only as good as your last 5 games, not your last 5 seasons, so far based on 3 games - below average team, helgason, not bad, but not enough

we have an average young player in joe mason who is capable of maintaining us a mid table position from his goal contribution
and a slovenian with some pace on the bench which is surely worth some kind of shot,

he cant keep playing the same line up its obviously not working and the players aren't hungry enough

Tommy smith ok good again OLD , wont score many goals, he creates opportunitys for other players ok, great, but we haven't got any clinical enough in our squad to maximise the use of tommy smith

there for its pretty much an ineffective addition to the squad without any star strikers,

Helguson may not have the pace but I wouldnt say he has "old legs" he still puts in a hell of a shift.

Surely after the last three games we gotta go 442 with mason and earnie.

i think we are just randomly looking for anything to see a change... earnie is not the answer in my opinion,we have velikonja who could probably do the same job... but mason def needs to start and he at the moment is offering more in the few mins hes on the pitch than any..

Earnie shouldn't even be on the bench nevermind the team.

Sorry but the type of player helguson is then you would expect a striking partner with him. However he got his first today and as I've got him as top championship goalscorer then COME ON !!!

I disagree mate. I think he should be given a run out, I know he is getting on and not the guy we use to see. But today we needed to chuck something different in the mix. I may well eat my words if he came on, but y have a guy on the bench who u don't intend giving a chance to.

He just preferred Etien today.
For me the problem was creating the chances rather than missing them.

In my opinion malky is not starting with mason just because he is a youngster and he is holding him back a bit, but we all know the saying 'if your good enough your old enough' so come on malky forget about the boys age and put him in the starting line up the kid deserves it !

Everton tried to the same with Rooney and we all know that happened afterwards

He became a huge success. So holding him back was right?

Depends on how much ambition you've got really , if mason plays regular and helped the club to promotion it would bring far more money to the club than a transfer to a premier league team would

That's my point and it even harmed them financially as the deal could have been much better as they still haven't even received a large percentage of the fee to this day
