Is he instructed to do this every game? so frustrating to watch! the amount of times we lost the ball lastnight through this was unbelievable! just give it to the midfield and let them create the space FFS.

Yeah but last season it got the reputation of being his "bread and butter" because he pulled so many off. Give it time, it's been one game and it was a game where the opposition crowded their own half.

Both Turner and Hudson played so many long balls because our 4 centre midfielder's had no movement to give them the outlet.
The Other Bob Wilson made this accurate assumption...
"As for Whittingham, I don’t see his use in a deep sitting quarterback role to be as much of a problem as some others do, but if all he is going to do is play one two’s with his centrebacks which leave them with the task of picking out a pass to launch an attack (invariably that “pass” was a hoisted ball in the general direction of Helguson), then you have to wonder how this is benefiting the team".

Clearly thinks he's Xabi Alonso or something

If we still had Burke then it would be a different story, these longballs would be heavenly

Spot on mate. Everytime Hudson and Turner got the ball there was no midfield player looking for it.

What I can't get my he's around is most the time Turner and Hudson played it long Witts was right next to them

A lot of teams are gunna sit back when we play them at home. When we're away I think it'll be a different ball game

the problem is turner doesnt push forward how many times did he just take one touch and boot when there was lots space in front of him! only way around the problem is to play pretty pretty footy and pass the oposition to death as so may men behind ball!

Turner wasn't the only one last night. Taylor also launched 50 yard passes at least 3 times, I was getting really annoyed by it, Heider was trying his best to fight for them but usually we lost possession. I hope MM watches the video and gets them to focus on keeping the ball down on the ground.

Turner does manage to pull it off more than others. His ball for Velikonja was perfect in the Newcastle Pre Season.
