It's getting beyond a joke, he is a centre midfielder and can never play wide and beat a man as long as he got a whole in his arse.
We had to endure it all of last season him coming inside and congesting the middle but I thought with Conway looking lean and so impressive pre-season plus Kimbo on his way I wouldn't have to witness it again.
To my horror Donald still makes the XI wide right and he gave us absolutely f*ck all there. They doubled up on Bellers as they knew there was no threat from the other side.
Malky not learnt a lot from last season, 4 centre mids in a 5 man midfield, square pegs in round holes, woeful dithering on tactics and substitutions. He's got a squad the envy of most the division now but seemed content to keep banging the same drum when Mason, Velikonja and Conway all capable of making a difference.
And to top it off he wants another striker FFS he only plays one anyway so why bother?!
Anyway rant over, nice to get 3 points, stop picking your blue eyes Malky, get Conway in wide and play Mason or Velikonja up with Helguson and we will rip sides apart.
Onwards and Upwards

Surely when Kimbo's back, he can't possibly put Cowie out there?

I just posted this in another thread -
Before anybody want's to point out that this is the first game of the season or point the fact that there were a few debutants or even our build up was disrupted by the mid-week internationals, that is complete bollocks.
We were shite today and for the first time really I place much of the blame on Malky's shoulders. Firstly tacticly, 4-5-1 @ home, what is that about? I am fully aware that 4-4-2 is increasingly becoming dated and you risk losing the midfield battle but f**k it, I'd rather have a go than just be hard to beat.
o I have no idea what use/advantage Turner's long diagonal balls provide, just gifts possesion to the opposition it seems.
o Whittingham is not effective as a deeplying playmaker, I lost count of the ammount of times he was stood next to the CB's tonight. He's our most talented player but it's wasted playing so deep, get Jordon Mutch to play there (who I though was one of the very few positives on display tonight).
o As for Cowie's role, can somebody please explain to me what purpose it serves having a 'winger' drifting into CM all the time. I can't fault Cowie's commitment and endevour but he is so clearly not a wide player.
o Finally, the most frustrating part of all is we have so many players who are good on the ball and are technically gifted in their own right, so why have we straight away decided to play long balls to Helguson?
As much as I blame the above players for not performing, I also blame Malky, clearly these are his tactical decisions because most of the above problems existed last season (just swapped Miller for Helguson).
I am a huge Malky fan but am pissed of tonight, its great to win football matches but I want to be entertained. Is that too much to ask!?!?!
You're spot on though in regards to signing another striker, what is the point? The way we packed our midfield tonight Malky may as well get another couple in there instead!

It's a squad game and a long season, expect everyone to get a run of games this season.

Spot on.
If you play with pace/trickery on both flanks you can get away with 4-5-1 as it quickly becomes 4-3-3 but spot the one obvious flaw tonight?
Conway and Bellers could have stretched them tonight but instead they just know snuff Bellers out job done as nothing coming from the other side.
Will he change it Tuesday? Will he F*ck!
Probably when Kimbo comes in he will leave out Gunnar or Mutch to find a place for his special one- well out of order squad player at best should not be playing wide in this side with what we have in our squad.

Spot on with Cowie - the other 2 things was Hudsons boot up field Doh - and always trying to get the ball too early to whitts snub out Whitts snub out Cardiff, just Whitts passing back and fourth in our own half while they're defence got back in place. made them look good, Doh, would love to have a Burke on the right wing. instead of shit Cowie.
We also did'nt look match fit, it's all very well training, but nothing beats match fitness, Doh
Sure we'll get better, a wins a win, a wins a good win when you play shit, Doh

Cowie should be cover for the 3/2 central midfield positions, he cannot play wide because he doesn't have the pace or ability to create from there

He's not even a creative player!!
He's simply an engine in midfield that can be relied upon to break down any attacks from the middle. If used correctly against the right teams can be very effective, but last night wasn't one of those games!

After his pre season I cannot understand for the life of me why Cowie was picked ahead of Conway. I would be pretty pissed off if I was him.

Most of us are singing from that same hymn sheet, conway been on fire and should have started and deffo think we should also use Ettie up with/just behind HH, but we got lucky last night and 3points are always welcomed in any fashion

, Though i am hoping we do not play 3 central midfielder's all season

Have to agree with you on this one Marlow. MM should have started Conway if he was to stick with
4-5-1 (which in all fairness did take apart Newcastle). However against a (sorry Huddersfield) MUCH
weaker, newly promoted side and not forgetting we were home! We should have opted for a more
threatening dynamic formation!? Just hope MM uses the squad something which we all felt he failed miserably
to do after last January. Miller and Cowie (out of position I might add) was a week in week out cert. That cautious attitude needs to go! And as you say drop the "blue eyes" nonsense!
Saying all this really pleased to play bad and take the 3 points!!

This is the issue my friend, Malky is VERY stubborn and likes to pick the same nucleus of player each time. He ignores much of the squad for large parts of the season which is detrimental to team morale and when they do step up they lack match practice. He ignored Quinn, Keinan, Gerrard (Rightly so the scouse c**t), Earnshaw and Naylor for large large parts of the season.

Miller was what Rooney was to England in the Euros the love child. Now Miller has gone, Cowie is the love child.
