Does Malky need help?

Fri Aug 17, 2012 9:05 pm

Director of Football?

Someone with a bit of experience.

You can say its early days but tonight has shown that the man has not learned from his mistakes.

He is tactically poor and that is being kind.

Give it a few weeks and Helguson will become the new Kenny Miller.

If we go up under Malky I will be very surprised.

uh didnt we keep them out and win the game????
did this starting 11 ever play a competitive game together before today?

Indeed we did.

With a last gasp goal against a pretty poor side by all accounts missing their star striker who deserved at least a point.

The tactics were shocking, there was no width and nothing appears to have changed since last
season bar the shirt colour.

You can kid yourself if you like but personally I don't think Malky knows what hes doing.

Just about yeah.

In answer to your second question, 9 out of the starting 11 did yes.

I just hope Bellars has a word with him about 2 things, 1. Signing the Jack Hunt fella and 2. Stop playing hoofball and getting the midfield involved more. :ayatollah:

Just to add lads I don't mean to seem negative.

I believe we have the talent to get out of this league, I'm just not
sure Malky is the man to steer the ship unfortunately.

Get a bit of experience in there with him and maybe we can push on.

Malky is a young manager, learning his trade, all fair enough.

But if the Malaysians are after a quick fix, and instant promotion, I think
Malky will need to be replaced.

I was wanting him to change it from the hour Mark but he didn't and I couldn't understand why?

5 mins to go he put Whiits out left, Bellers through the middle and we get a win?

Didn't understand MM taking off Cowie and replacing him like for like with Mason, not saying I wouldn't have taken Cowie off but thought Conway might have at least tried to have a go from out wide. Mason looked lost a few times defensively but showed a couple of neat touches in attack?

I think maybe MM was half thinking he didn't want to lose as we weren't playing our best, but I just hope we show a bit more intent at home and use our bench which looks much stronger.

If anybody had offered 3 pts and a shabby performance, I would have jumped at it, we'll get better, play better and we have maximum points. :ayatollah:

MM seems reluctant to change from his tested 4-5-1 when things are not working out. Cowie should have been brought off a lot earlier tonight so why wait until the 78th minute to make the first change. We needed the points.

Tonights performance was similar to the second half of last season. It would be nice to see MM to mix it up and try something different.

Maybe Bellamy will be his help on the pitch..?

from 60 mins we were crying out for width.... also i can only remember 1 occassion were bellamy touched the ball in the 2nd half and that was the cut back from inside the area...

thought cowie was below par.. whitts was way too deep and should have switched with gunnarsson, and why do we rely on hudson and turner for distrubution time and time again...

saying that, huddersfield were set up to invite us on and we couldnt break them down...

Mason is definitely not like for like with cowie. Huddersfield are a decent team at this level, there will be a lot worse than them in the championship this season. It was the first game, let's judge the team when it's October, we all know league positions etc are a bit false until then. Transfer windows still open, this is just a working progress of a team until then. We still have kim bo to come in, and our new cf still on the bench bedding in. Give Malky a chance for heavens sake. But it's a progression from moaning about the badge and kit I guess.

I thought cowie should have stayed on, Mutch to be replaced by Conway and put Don in the middle. He's got the
Legs to keep going all game, and I agree with Pw and AG swapping roles, might have been more effective?

It's all ifs and buts now thought. City have the 3 points, and we'll just sit and wait to see how things pan out. You could see the conditions weren't ideal, the ball was running quick, and it was harder to keep control of it

4 points from an opening 9.

A tricky home tie and 2 difficult away games no doubt, but its the level of performance
and tactics that worry me.

By all account, from a quick phone call we were awful today and the tactics were once again shocking
so I ask again..

You're absolutely right when you say that he appears to be tactically inept and Helguson is playing the role Miller played in the second half of last season. But to bring in a Director of Football because MM can't hack it is totally wrong. What I can't understand is why he switched to the long ball game for the last four months of last season and has continued with this style of play this season with all the options he now has.
