Robert Earnshaw Keen To Stay At Cardiff City!

Fri Aug 17, 2012 7:14 am

Wales striker Robert Earnshaw has reiterated his desire to remain at Cardiff City.

Earnshaw returned to Cardiff on a free from Nottingham Forest in July 2011 but was not a regular last season.

He faces further competition following the summer arrival of Etien Velikonja , Heidar Helguson and Craig Bellamy .

"I'm not looking to move. I want to do well. I want to play for Cardiff City. I'm not looking for anything else," Earnshaw said.

"Right now the main thing for me is to start the season and bang some goals in.

Earnshaw's scoring record
•Cardiff City - 109 goals
•Nottingham Forest - 45 goals
•West Bromwich Albion - 17 goals
•Norwich City - 4 goals
•Derby County - 2 goals
•Morton - 2 goals

"Where my mentality is right now is I'm ready and focused and ready to play for Cardiff City."

Earnshaw found first-team opportunities limited last season, making only eight league starts for the Bluebirds.

As well as the summer acquisitions at his disposal, Cardiff manager Malky Mackay also has Rudy Gestede and Joe Mason as forward options this season.

But despite the intense competition at the club, 31-year-old Earnshaw insists he has still has plenty to offer the club.

"I've had a very good pre-season. I've been very pleased with my sharpness and how pre-season's gone," he said.

"I feel really, really good and I'm looking to get better. I want to improve and want to get better.

"I feel like I've got 20-25 goals in me and that's how I feel. After that it's whether the manager wants to pick me or not.

"I'll be working as hard as I can to try and get into it and to be part of it."

Earnshaw made a brief substitute's appearance late on in Wales' 2-0 friendly defeat to Bosnia-Hercegovina in Llanelli on Wednesday.

The former West Brom and Norwich player was a late call-up to the squad after West Ham midfielder Jack Collison withdrew.

"On the night they were better than us. I thought they were sharper and moved the ball much quicker than us," Earnshaw said.

"We weren't really at our game. We weren't doing what we should have been doing and the things we've been doing in the past that's made us a good team

I admire his desire but if he actually wants to play football he will have to move on, I say this considering the fact last season he couldn't get a game last season with far less competition. Is he content to sit back and earn? If he is he will stay, if he wants to play football he will have to probably take a drop in pay to move on.

How long does he have left on his contract??

Perhaps MM should send him out on loan to see if he really has got the 20 goals in him he claims he feels to have?

Earnie did not get a look in last season but I still think that he can do a job for us. It turns out that he had the best goal/time on thee pitch ration last season !

If given some match time he will score goals. If he does not fit into MM's plans like last season then let him move on, but it would be good to see him have a chance to prove himself.

;) I understand you and everyone else who thinks he may still be able to cut it (i dont) but who would you drop for him ? HH, Ettie, Bellers, Mason not better than any of them, imo

Has he been given a chance? Could come on as as sub, more of an impact player. He did score more goals/time on the pitch last season than anyone else. He deserves some game time.

Unfortunately we don't want you to say Earnie, your time has passed and we're now looking to make a young youthful team

The bit about 25 goals is crazy, but I still feel that if given the right service and playing time, he can still bag 10-15 goals. Better finisher than Misser Miller at least :ayatollah:

If he's used as a sub and can play alongside Helguson then there's no reason why he can't be a decent squad player, not target men last year was a huge problem.

I still believe he will score 20 Goals a season, But he needs to play every game and thats not going to happen.

Agree with this. Earnie and Miller just wouldn't work together (didn't at derby either) and Gestede was the only target man we had and was injured for half the season. MM didn't have to many options than one up front and Miller's work rate alone made him the obvious choice.

Think Helguson and Earnie could be a good combination in a 4-4-2.

I think we will see much more from MM tactically this season because we have players that can play in different formations.

We were limited as to what er could do last season and MM just went with making us hard to breakdown because that was how he could get the best from the squad.

20-25 in training maybe? But unfortunately if Earnie still had it surely there would have been much more interest in taking him off us. We all love Earnie but I can't really see him having much if any of a part to play.
