TG asks Hammam to 'Be a man'

Fri Aug 17, 2012 6:25 am

Cardiff City chairman Dato Chan Tien Ghee has called on former owner Sam Hammam “be a man and get back some of the respect you used to have”.

The broadside aimed at Lebanese businessman Hammam came during Cardiff City’s annual meeting yesterday when Dato Chan, known as ‘TG’, said: “Every time we say ‘Okay, here is our offer’ the goalposts move.

“After that we hear nothing for a while. We have made an offer and are awaiting a reply. What more can we do?

“If Sam Hammam is out there I ask him, ‘For goodness sake be a man. Get back some of the respect you used to have. You have said time and again how much you love this football club. Please do something to show that love and help us make progress on the Langston issue.”

City, through their Malaysian investor Vincent Tan, are ready to pay Langston £9m up front, plus three payments of £2m during seasons when the club are playing Premier League football.

Chief executive Alan Whiteley has confirmed the written offer was sent to Hammam, Langston’s representative, three weeks ago – with club officials now waiting for a reply.

Hammam was Cardiff City owner when the club took out £24m in loan notes from Swiss-based company Langston, while there have been a number of offers to clear the debt since the Malaysians came to the club.

A verbal agreement to pay £7m plus a bonus on promotion was reached at one stage, while other offers from City have been a straight £8m payable within 30 days, £10m in total with £3m paid up front and the rest at the end of this season or £13m with £8m up front and an additional £5m if City are promoted to the Premier League.

Now they are waiting for a replay on their latest offer which could add up to £15m in total.

Dato Chan flew into the UK on Wednesday before the club’s annual meeting at Cardiff City Stadium. He was joined by Steve Borley, Paul Guy, financial director Doug Lee and chief executive Alan Whiteley on the top table.

There were around 50 shareholders at the meeting on the third floor of the stadium and ‘TG’, responded to questions about the change of kit colour from blue to red for the 2012-13 season.

“Our club is Cardiff City,” he told shareholders. “We are the Bluebirds forever.”

“I, too, am a Bluebird now and that will not change.”

“We are starting our season against Huddersfield and my hope is that we can unite,” he said. “We must pull together and give our team a chance to go up to the promised land.

“We may have issues, and there are always issues in any family, but let’s keep our heads, get this team up to the Premier League.

“There is depth in strength in our squad and we have a chance to achieve something big.

“It’s time Wales had a second team at Premier League level.

“Cardiff City is in our hearts. Nobody can take that from us.

“We carry this club in our arms for our Cardiff City ancestors and for those in the future. This is a Welsh club and will always be a Welsh club. We must sustain this club and that is what we are working to do.

“It hurts me to lose even one fan for any reason. We don’t want to lose anybody and will do everything we can to bring them back.

“Yes, the announcement (on a change of kit colour) could have been handled better, but we weren’t given that opportunity. There were premature leaks and we could not present it in the way we would have wanted.

“But it could have been handled better and I, as chairman, accept full responsibility for that. I apologise for that.”

‘TG’ will be joined by Vincent Tan, who flew into the UK today, at tonight’s Championship home clash with Huddersfield Town.

Mr Hamman could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Thats why i said he needs to come out to the media or take the offer if Vt/Tg are using the media he needs to also now. The amount of stuff said on here to counteract what tg/vt have just released in the media will make no diffrence now after whats just come out i wouldnt think a froum would clear it up tbh at the moment, so i think its best he either goes to the media or he takes whats on offer as Tg/Vt have painted the picture for fans so there has to be some kind of reply surely :ayatollah:

The topic is there to talk/debate about. Isn't that what forums are all about.
Seeing as this is one of the most important times in the clubs history, only right it gets top viewing?

Sure, this is a forum and maybe people do want to debate it, but it is like being in a school play ground, and like everybody else i am voicing my opinion on something i personally have had enough of, no matter whose side you are on, nobody will know the true facts.

Maybe the school playground is where Sam and Vincent are playing.

This is a quote from TG having his say, which doesn't come about very often.

This is one of the biggest issues in our clubs history and has a detrimental effect on our future, we will discuss it if we want buddy!

I suspect if w eare nearing the premiership later this year then Sam will come forward but it will cost us more up front.

He's not stupid, neither are the Malaysians - clash of the business mind - only one loser - CCFC! :old:

Well the ball is certainly in Hammans court. With so many of Sam's desciples being openly hostile towards the Malaysians of the time taken to get this done it'll be interesting to hear what they have to say now.

tg is being very clever sam has nowhere to go now! the offer is out in open and to average person it is a reasonable offer so if sam rejects it he will be seen as baddy no matter what his friends/followers say, also they cant use old crap like truth will come out in end! its not about whats gone on before its about the offer now! :D

TG didn't use the media as such. He was asked a question by a shareholder at the AGM and said that an offer had been made before the deadline that Carl said Sam had set! Not really the same thing.

Sam needs to stop using Annis and Carl to make his points and accept the offer or negotiate with VT/TG on new terms. Or make an official statement as to why he seems unwilling to take the terms offered.

TG is right to be fair, but if we have the money why don't we just pay the full amount now?

Well of course he used the media thats why he said whats hes said it was an AGM so everything gets out to the media one way or the other and i already said sam needs to make a statement or take the offer and run. So you have only brought up my quote only to say the same things i have already said. :ayatollah:

Be a man and give us your money?

If we're talking about being a man surely Victor Tan and Sam Hamman should both be men and adhere to the written terms of the loan agreement.
