Club v Country

Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:25 am

Obviously this debate has raged on in Football for a very long time, managers are regularly criticised for using a player for too long in a meaningless friendly, and players chastised for feigning injury and putting their club football as a higher priority.

Well with our opening league game only 2 days away and some of our key players playing international football tonight, what side of the argument do you stand on??

For the sake of debate LetsĀ assume that players such as Bellamy and gunnerson are asked to play a lot of the game tonight, say 75 minutes plus, so that their selection for us Friday could well be affected.

With the games being so close I think the league game should not have been brought forward to Friday. We are being penalised for having international players and that cannot be fair on any level

I've always put my club first before country as I see them week in week out. As its only a friendly If I was Malky I would of withdrawn all my players, but that's just my opinion. The timing was terrible.

International football so close to the season start is a disgrace

As it is only a friendly i myself would have withdrawn all our players on international dutyIt is a stupid time to have such matches of so little importance

Terrible timing.

Club for me every day of the week.

I'd choose city promotion over Wales qualifying for a major tournament always.... and I have in the past watched Wales away quite a bit.

Especially non-competitive games. It is farcical. I've always been a big advocate of international football until recent years when the corruption at FIFA has made it laughable. Mind you, the club game isn't much better!

Club everytime where the ones that pay the players wages.

if one of our players gets injured tonight i would like to think we will get compensated for the inconvenience!!!!!

It's ridiculous that a friendly will be played just 2 days before we start the season. The reason why we are out of the League Cup (Capital Cup) because all our players were away. Some may get injured tonight and then we wont be able to play a strong squad and loose just like we did last night. Awful.

I would only want my players to play 45 minutes at most. But I still expect Darcy to play the full 90 however we still have Kev before him. Gunnar is carrying a slight knock so I cant see the manager wanting to put him qualifiers in jeopardy

its not really the end of the world i think.

Marshall and cowie will be fine, even if they play i cant see them playing the whole game (jordan rhodes starts too)

Earnie and blake wont play for us on friday, bellamy will play 45 mins i reckon.

kiss wont start friday

only doubt is gunnersson, hope he doesnt play at all tonight

Club every day of the week, I have no interest in international football whatsoever :ayatollah:

I think that Country should take priority over club football, however saying that I'd take City getting promotion to the prem over Wales getting to a major tournament final. It's sky's fault for us having to play on Friday, there's always been an international friendly fixture on the same week as the first round of the league cup.
