NEW Cardiff City signing Kim Bo-Kyung will see his path to the Welsh capital eased after he and South Korean teammates were exempted from military service following their bronze medal win at the London Olympics.
The 22-year-old signed a three-year deal with the Bluebirds after a £2m transfer from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka late last month.
Kim was part of the South Korean side which beat Japan to earn third-place in the Olympic football tournament and despite all men over 18 being required to do national service in the Asian nation the bronze medal winners were told they would now not need to do so.
The midfielder flies back to South Korea now to secure a work permit, a process which needs to be done outside the UK.
Cardiff boss Malky Mackay, said a representative from the club will fly to Korea this weekend to help finalise the process and return to the Welsh capital with the rising star.
It is hoped Kim will be available for Cardiff's Championship trip to Bristol City on August 25.
And Mackay said he had been left impressed by Kim's showing for his country at the Olympics.
'He did very well which augers well for us,' said Mackay.
'I thought he was fantastic in the semi-final against Brazil and against Japan.'
