the thing is though he seems to have more fun winding people up than he does playing football imo when he hit the mascot he started pussy footing around with him for the rest of the half time warm up

He's his own worst enemy. If he just knuckled down and focused on his football he could achieve something but too many distractions in that head of his. I think it's summed up by the fact that those that like having him hear purely stated it for reasons not relating to football e.g. holding the black arm band for Mikey Dye, winding up Swansea fans on Twitter etc. In actual footballing terms, he turned into a right carthorse when he took his eye off the ball.
