BBC Panorama - Lynette White Murder

Mon Aug 13, 2012 7:40 pm

Gruesome murder, remember it well and I also remember the unease that spread around the City after it. Want to know every one who was around at the times thoughts on the case etc I know there are a few Cardiff men on here who are surely old enough to remember it.

I did not like how they pinned the case on 5 men from ehtnic minorities based on the evidence of a f*cking whore, never trust the police. This is a serious thread by the way as wierd as that sounds coming from me.

Interesting programme, does anyone know any of the people involved be it the policemen or the Cardiff three? Never trust the police and I remember the police in Cardiff during the 80s were f*cking arseholes.

When you see what has happened to those accused i agree with you, also remember the Cardiff 3 who again were wrongly accused of the killing of the newspaper guy .

Didn't they also stitch someone up for the murder of a newsagent in Canton around the same time?

As i posted above - Back in the 80's we were left to sort out our own problems and DNA was not as good as what it is today.

Similar thing happened in swansea in the 80's manageress off the sex shop was murdered and mutilated and the OB fitted 2 down and out brothers up for it, they got life even though witnesses put them nowhere near the crime scene they were eventually released years later after the rough justice programme investigated the crime on BBC, no action ever taken against the police officers involved even though the witnesses for the 2 brothers told the BBC they were threatned and intimidated by the OB, the South Wales Constabulary are a disgrace the difference in these cases is that they have never caught the person who murdered the woman in swansea, all those coppers who investigated these 2 murders should be behind the door it's shocking they are all free men.

Sorry must have been writing at the same time. Dark days indeed and they seem so far away now.

Geoffrey gaffour was the man that killed lynette white.

I'm sure I have read somewhere that a bloke called Michael O'Brien who was fitted up came out of prison years later, albeit with a sum of money for compensation and the cheeky friggin justice system made a claim for bed and board whilst he serves time as an innocent man! Think o'brien was fitted up for the betting shop murder.

It wasn't pleasant at all, I remember going out around Roath the night the news had spread. I do not know anyone involved in the case and I remember everyone came up with their own suspects and put people in jail before a trial had taken place, typical Cardiff.

It's frightening how many psychos there still are out there. Just thinking about this Tia case. How many murderers are wandering around, how many pedophile rings are in place and how many rapists are walking around free? I'm not saying things are worse than before but if you stop and think about it, it is quite disturbing.

I remember it well. Worked in the Docks area from 76 to 84, after that in Whitchurch. Lynette was murdered in 88, I think. Everybody knew that the wrong men had been jailed, but there seemed a reluctance, for whatever reason, to get involved. There were protest marches and the like, but mainly from the far left groups. Few locals were involved. All these years later, Lynette still can't rest in peace.

Remember the Swansea case as well. Equally bad.

Dark days for justice in South Wales.

I lived next door to one of the coppers for the first 15 years of my life. Perfectly nice bloke or so I thought.

Horrible case of injustice, racism and corruption. Their day back in court will come!
