CITY FANS TO WAIT FOR KIM DEBUT

Mon Aug 13, 2012 6:18 am

Kim Bo-kyung is aiming to make his Championship debut for Cardiff City against Bristol City away this month.

South Korean international Kim flies home today because he has to be out of the country while the Bluebirds apply for a work permit, and that will take a couple of weeks.

Kim, 22, will almost certainly miss next Friday’s Championship opener against Huddersfield and the match at Brighton, but he should be ready to play against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday, August 25 (1pm). He will then make a home debut against Wolves on Saturday, September 1.

Kim was a major success for South Korea during the Olympic football tournament, helping to the bronze medal and earning selection for an All-Star team selected by BBC commentator Garth Crooks, who was full of praise for the Bluebirds’ new boy.

“He created two superb openings in the semi-final against Brazil which should have resulted in goals for the Koreans, while he looked sharp, full of enterprise and should have had a penalty,” said Crooks. “Had the Koreans equalised and taken their earlier chances it might have been them in the final against Mexico and not the South Americans.”

Kim completed his £2m transfer from Japanese club Cerezo Osaka to Cardiff City before the Olympic tournament started. He has work permit paperwork to complete in Korea, while City will sort out the British end of that process.

He will simply have the word “Kim” on the back of his City shirt, wear squad number 13 and has signed a three-year contract with the Bluebirds.

“Kim is an all-action, attacking midfield player who is left-footed, but he is comfortable playing on the left, right or through the middle,” said City manager Malky Mackay. “He also loves to strike at goal.”

While Kim waits for a work permit, a number of other Cardiff City players are away on international duty this week and will miss the first competitive match of the season, against Northampton Town away in the League Cup tomorrow.

Craig Bellamy, Darcy Blake and Robert Earnshaw are in the Wales squad, while goalkeeper David Marshall and Don Cowie have been called up by Scotland. Aron Gunnarsson (Iceland), Filip Kiss (Slovakia) and Etien Velikonja (Slovenia) are also on international duty.

All of them could be playing on Wednesday evening, but will rejoin the City squad in time for their opening Championship clash with Huddersfield Town.

If Coleman had half a brain he'd rest Bellamy. He's a definite starter in every game
and has f**k all to prove

ALL international teams are in action on Weds night and for many its the LAST game before the WC2014 qualifiers kick off in Sept ...... so this game is defo needed and Im sure Coleman will make several changes in the 2nd half in order to " rest " certain players . Oh and going off on a tangent Ive heared a rumour that Macedonia have sacked Toshack !!

Isn't the Wolves match on September 2nd at 2.00pm, not on Sept 1st as stated in that article/post ?
