YOUR THOUGHTS ON TODAYS GAME

I nearly didnt make todays game due to an illness i picked up whilst abroad, but thankfully recovered just in time, how glad i did now.

Was a bit disappointed with the crowd prior to kick off, but as in previous years is the average attendence for our home friendlies so cant really complain.

I was also suprised by how many of the new Red shirts had been sold and were on display within the stadium and was a strange sight to see for the first time at home. Then seeing the players running out in it was even stranger, but i will join the ride and take it as it comes as nothing is going to change it now.

As for the game, the first half i was blown away, we were by far the better side, and for me Jordon Mutch was head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch, he is going to be a class act for us im sure, just hope he stays fit.

The second half was not as good as the first, but Velikonja impressed me with his runs and link up play and also took his goal well and looked very pleased to score.

So all in all a negative start turned into a hugely positive day, if we play like that week in week out, i dont think the shirt will be such an issue hopefully, we ALL want blue but what can we do

We still have Bellamy, Kim Bo Kyung, Mason, and Gestede to come into the team to, all bodes well for the season ahead, hopefully another 2 or 3 additions will complete the jigsaw.

Great display from the team, personally I feel Velikonja isn't a one man striker and will always need a striker up front with him, Mutch played brilliantly

Admittedly they had no first team strikers playing but you can only beat whats in front of you...

Jordan Mutch was hugely impressive today and was MOM despite only playing 45 minutes - everything he did was positive and a full strength Newcastle defence had no idea where he was going to pop up next - a fantastic debut.

Second half was quieter, but agree Velikonja ran them ragged with some smart runs at pace and some great turns. For me Conway was also superb and I'm not a huge fan of his usually.

More red shirts than blue in my opinion.

Lots to be hopeful about.

i enjoyed the game. as you say. first half we were really good. my only little moan was we still like to walk the ball in, to me we seemed to have space . but not shoot , second half more. but apart from that. good game. good day. and. its a confidence booster.

There were great performances all over the pitch today. I have given Hudson some stick in the past but today he was absolutely terrific and I only hope he can keep that level of performance up for the rest of the season. Joe Lewis made one brilliant save in the short time he was on the pitch and Craig Conway worked his socks off.

However, Jordon Mutch was a superstar in the first half and if that kind of form is kept up we will be turning down multi-million pound bids for him come January.

Joe Ralls and Aaron Gunnasson took their goals brilliantly and Heidar Helguson showed great signs before being replaced by Velikonja.

It was though Velikonja who impressed me most as he seems a tough little cookie who is more likely to physically throw off a defender rather than tumble to the ground Jay Bothroyd style when challenged.

Although his goal was a million miles offside (lucky reds ) he was so impressive in the way he stood his ground against 2 bigger defenders before slotting the ball into the net.

I know this was only a pre-season friendly but I thought we were miles better as a team than Newcastle who was strangely way off the pace.

I also forgot to mention, there is still a Cardiff Blues badge at the front of the stage in the Canton stand.

I enjoyed it Nobby, for a friendly it was good, don't know how strong Newcastle were, but this bodes well for the season ahead with more players to strengthen the squad.

Bearing in mind this was also Newcastles last pre season and they were unbeaten against a bunch of tidy euroean sides (Monaco, braga, den haag and a erm hartlepool) they were very poor but we were simply excellent.

Quality all over the pitch. Whilst Eti was impressive, for me I was equally impressed with Helguson until he went off. With the midfield fire power we now have his ability to win and hold onto the ball up front will be a very potent weapon.

Very pleased.. lot of fans took the Forest Green game bit serious but we bounced back with 4 wins. The team looks in great shape and ended on a high today.
Gunnarsson is a striker by the looks of it! Great to see Velikonja get a goal.. Kiss came on and should have had a penalty.
Kiss, Ralls, Conway have really had a great pre season. I think Conway has gained confidence and runs at the defence a lot more.. He is really shoing why he should be in the team.
The 3 players who have had a fantastic pre season is Kiss, Conway and Ralls.. I told Kiss to get a goal at home!

Very Professional job. They killed it a 3 0 and at times seemed to be experimenting after then in 2nd half.
In fact I hope thet they learned more from second half - because their conservative style made them look potentially vulnerable.

What I learned today was that it is all about confidence.

They were very slick first half - and the crowd were good.
I don't see us as a team the can sit on a lead a grind one out.
We are at our best - going for it.
Our team seams to buzz on the attack.

I just hope that MM tactics don't try to shut up shop on a lead - because we really are not that type of team.
We seem ( from today and the Friendlies) to thrive getting at them.

Anything less could get us on the back foot and lose momentum.

I honestly think that we should go out in any game to aim for a cricket score.
Our players are keen - to be 'Professionally conservative' may just f**k us up.

Ralls, Mutch, Gunner, Conway and Whitts were great -

Leave them play up beat in their half and I think we'll be fine.

Try to bank a 1 0 and we will end up chasing shadows.

I hiope Malky let's them put teams to the sword.

They all won't be like the Geordies were today.

Looking at Cheltenham game when Taylor scored from 20-30 yards.. the players seemed to be trying their luck from range and got great confidence.. winning 4-0 and today Gunnarssons goal.. lacked a lot of confidence shooting towards the end of the season.. Hudson went with something more different at Derby last season!

Very good performance, well impressed. Conway deserved mom today.

Really enjoyed it, we played some good football, especially 1st. half, and we've still got some big hitters to come into the side, hopefully it will be a great season.

Conway has shown the perfect way to come back. He had his knockers, he had his
injury problems. Looks like he has worked his bollocks off pre-season.

troobloo3339 Gestede didn't play so I didn't have a go at the team that played or the performance. I am just stating an opinion. I am actually spending very little time on this board lately and it's cos of people like you.
