My Final Decision.

Sat Aug 11, 2012 4:45 am

I am just a tiny fraction of what is Cardiff City, just one of many supporters who has followed this club up and down the country for the last decade or so, there are many like me, there are some who have been doing their weekend routine a hell of a lot longer, and some who have just came on board on following the club. We are all different, with different opinions. And everyone is entitled to their opinion wether they have supported the club for 40 years or just in the last year. I won't bore you with how I got started supporting the club as to be honest it doesn't make a difference to me wether anyone watched their first game on a rainy cold mid week game in Barnsley or a bright warm summers day at Wembley.

Though my opinion doesn't matter to most on this message board (I'm prepared for the replies of "good riddance" "plastic" "not a true fan" and what ever other shit) I want to voice my opinion and hope by some it gets respected. My opinion has changed back and forth over the last couple of months from being totally against the rebrand to giving it a chance to back to being totally against it again.

When I first saw the news, I was absolutely devasted, angry and upset. I lost sleep and all I kept thinking about was that we must try and turn this around. To my my suprise, by reading the message board there was a massive split between fans. I thought this could never happen to our club with the type of supporters we have. Eventually we had the statement regarding that we wasn't to change. Naturally I was over the moon. But again was upset to see the comments on this message board, our own fans insulting, belittling and even threatening one and other. Again another statement was released with the new badge and kit, and again I was angry and upset but thought I would give it a chance. Up until the last couple of weeks I was still on the fence, but every time I saw pictures of the squad wearing the training gear, the new signings holding the new shirt and the stadium getting changed (Which I actualy think is a very good idea. Apart from the obvious.) I couldn't help but get more angry every time I saw something new.

I am very thankful for what the Malaysians have done for us in the past, paying the bills and keeping the taxman away. But this for me is too much. I'm angry that everything I associated with Cardiff City FC has gone, I'm angry that there is a divide in fans, I think I'm even more frustrated that many supporters are happy to be red.

The last couple of seasons I have given up playing football to watch the City. My old man said "You have the rest of your life to watch the city but you only get a couple of years to play football" I knew he was right at the time but I loved everything that was Cardiff City, standing shoulder to shoulder with like minded people screaming, shouting and singing. But now, today as everything stands and watching the recent developments and given it a chance I can honestly say that I will not step foot in the stadium till we change back to blue with atleast a half decent looking badge. I will go back to playing football when I get home in January but will attend a couple of away games when I can.

I'm not usually one to get my points across in writing, and after reading this over in a couple of days I'm sure I will think of something else why I hate the rebrand ect. As Iv said, you can throw what ever insult at me, it's my opinion, my stance. If you don't like it, that's fine. I will still read and post on this message board but I guess this post is a little bit of closure to my thoughts and feelings on the last couples of months.

You are correct, everyone has there own feelings on the matter and everyone is entitled to react as they see fit without any criticism.

I also gave up playing football many years ago at a young age because I wanted to watch City play. Personally i honestly don't care one iota about the colour of shirt we play in and am totally bemused as to why anyone would give up watching the team play just because of it.

The badge is horrible but I never really liked the old one as it was very old fashioned and can understand that something more dynamic is required from a marketing side of things but please the new badge fails in so many ways but I stronlgy believe the club is aware of this and we will have a new badge next year.

Good luck to you and I hope that one day you will return. As for me I can't wait to see this team play which at the end of the day is what it should be all about

I agree with the above, the loss of any fan is a shame but supporting City is surely more than just just the colour of shirt we play in :ayatollah:

It's very sad to lose any fan, everyone has a right to have their say and everyone should respect it. I will always be Blue and will campaign to get our Blue back in years to come, I will never forget we are Bluebirds and Blue and I will never buy anything red. Fans who have tried to stand up for what they believe in, have sadly been belittled, sniped at, threatened, intimidated and those that have done it should be ashamed of them selves.

We all support Cardiff City and everyone should rem our identity has been stripped from us and to some that hurts more. Those that have gone Red have done it on the believe we will be debt free and they should rem that as our debt is rising daily, now nearly £90 mill in debt. This needs sorting ASAP .

We should support our players on the pitch as it is not their fault and they are playing for Cardiff City. :ayatollah:

Re: My Final Decision.

Yes 90 million in debt and rising every day every hour. Who do you think is paying for the re brand ? Yep all goes on the debt. VT is in no hurry to pay off Sam as he does not want to change the debt to equity and the reasons are obvious.
Is the pressure on Malky and the players to get to the Prem ? You bet it is because our whole exsitance rides on it. We fail and I will give it two seasons max, and we fail to go up we are finished.
And I posted this before, Bellamy did not come back to CCFC because he loves us, he would of stayed at Liverpool he came back 100% because of personal reasons not because of CCFC. And don't get me wrong I love Bellers and he will give us 110% and despite what he has been told to say on the re branding personally. I have been informed he hates it.

Re: My Final Decision.

Good post mate and I think most will respect your decision. It's clearly been a difficult decision for you and one that as taken much time.
My first game was in 78' and I have a different out look " it's just a shirt colour" It's the the club I support.Management, players, stadiums come and go. What I find difficult to digest is the reasoning behind the change in colour but I maybe proved wrong in time. I have my memories and the club as its history and no one will be able to change that .
It's sad that fans like yourself feel this way and maybe one day you will again follow the club.
Good luck

Respect to you mate! Your struggle of concience has mirrored mine. I'm going to give the first few games of the season a go, but I hate everything about this sham with a passion...I hate the way some of our supporters have sold their souls more though, and the 'fans' who have welcomed this bullshit with open arms, well...you wouldn't want to fight alongside them in the trenches would you.

I'll try to support my club, but I admit to being totally undrewhelmed by the season ahead and that's the first time thats ever happened to me.

So what if the debt is 90m in real terms its only about 20m ffs.

Hes lending money to himself ffs the more he puts in the more reason he has not to walk away.

Totally agree. If its 90m then it may as well be 900m as we would never get it sorted without VT now and the only way he will get any kind of return is by us being successful. People get so hung up on the figures when as fans we should be more worried about the score on the pitch and have faith in the owners whos money is keeping the club alive and pushing on.

Majority of that 90 he owes to himself so hes not going to walk away.

Sam is NEVER in a million years going to get his 37m back which is the figure included for Langstone in the 90m.

Hes prepared to take 10 + 5 for promotion so we are told and then im alliwing 5 or so million for other debts.

Annis loan note 1 states that the capital sum of the loan is £15m and only that aspect attracts interest which would current put the amount outstanding at approx £21m. The £9m naming rights are only available until September 2016 and after that time it is written off and will NEVER be repayable together with the £5m promotion bonus.

If this isn't settled by September 2016 then SH and Langston are pretty much in the same position as they are today with an unsecured loan , which with interest will be approx £25m, and having to make a decision of how they get it repaid. £40m is I'm sorry nonsense it's more like £25m which by any standards is a great deal of money but let's keep it real about how much the debt is.

A lot more than that, after two seasons your debt has risen from £30 million to £90 million under Tan. At that rate of inflation by the summer of 2016 you would owe Tan £810 million. That seems bizarre, but your debt is trippling every two years under Vincent Tan. Surely the average Cardiff City fan see things are wrong financially

Sam will get his money back in 2016, even if it means your administration or liquidation. He doesn't care, he's just a foreign buisness man. Sam goes for VT, he doesn't really care about Cardiff City, he'll want his money back and he'll want his 7% interest. People are saying the more he puts in to the club, the more he's here to stay. Well I see it as the more he puts in to the club, the more he's going to get out due to the 7% interest.

Re: My Final Decision.

Ultimately the players are the club through the years they have created our history they are the catalyst and dynamics of any Club without them everything is empty , pointless and worthless .
I think people need reminding Colour, design, bricks and mortar dont and never will actually get you results and success this is only achieved with the physical and skillful presence of Eleven players trying to outwit, outfight and outmanouvre the opposing Eleven!.
Farquharson ,Blair.Ferguson.Davie,Ford,Hitchins.Toshack.Kavanagh,Ramsey,Bellamy..............are what makes a Football Club!.
So from a personal point of view i support the players as i have in the past and will do so in the future i also have to say i have not heard of any member of the team moan about the badge design or Colour strip change as i am 100% certain all they want to do is get out on the pitch and do their best for Cardiff City Football Club.

So rememember we need to put away all this egotistal ,sycophantical, and chest beating and support the PLAYERS.

I don't post on here very much as you can see from the number of times that I have posted but have read with great interest the arguments for and against the rebrand imposed on us by VT and this is my decision and probably the first and last post that I will make concerning it.

Like you I thought long and hard about my decision on the rebrand of this club and at first it totally disgusted me, no way did I want anything to do with this! But after a few days I started to think about it and took a step backwards and viewed my original decision from other angles. I first started watching city as a ten year old my first game being at Ninian Park in 1971 against West Ham in the league cup my father took me and I can still remember being so excited as I walked up Sloper Road and saw the flood lights for the first time, I was there to watch city play and I didn't care wether they played in blue, red, green or whatever. The fact that we lost that match didn't matter to me, I was in love with Cardiff from that day on and no other team mattered to me, I loved being at Ninian Park and the atmosphere that it generated and I thought about this when making my decision and that is no matter what colour we play in at home we are still Cardiff City.

Do I like the idea of us playing in red? No I don't and to be honest I think I would be right in saying that even the most pro red supporter is not 100% happy about us playing in red and like myself and others would prefer to see us in blue at home.

Do I like the new badge? No I don't but it still has a blue bird on it and where ever it is on the badge it's still there and that will do for me.

Will I be buying the new red shirt? No definitely not! Why? because it reminds me far too much of the wurzels and when I started supporting the club they were our main rivals long before the jacks started to register on our radar. But in a few years when this has all blown over and settled down and become more acceptable maybe I will who knows? As it si I very rarely wear colours to a match anyway even when we were in blue and only ever bought a shirt for knocking around in or going on holiday.

So, after quite a bit of long, hard thinking about it, I will carry on and support them what ever though seeing them come out of the tunnel wearing red at home is going to be weird to say the least!
