On the eve of the club's reopening of the stadium...

Thu Aug 09, 2012 2:48 pm

...I have this to say about the apparent acceptance of the re-branding.

I believe that fans of all of the following clubs would not have stood by and allowed a similar thing to happen at their club:

Swansea City (can you conceive of the Red Swans? I don't think so, but why is Red Bluebirds any different?)
Celtic and Rangers (people have mentioned these clubs, whose colours are intertwined with their identity)
Just about any team in the Premiership, particularly, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle.

Despite their current plight, I doubt if Portsmouth fans would just lie down and take it like we have either, along with other Championship sides like Forest, Wolves, Leeds, Derby and Blackpool. Even a club like Charlton, I would say, is represented strongly by their colour, red.

Many people boast each year about how we are top of the hooligan table each year. I have never been a hooligan, but I have supported this club for over 20 years (having previously been a Bridgend rugby supporter), and I am frankly quite surprised that a club with the reputation that our fans have (or had) has just allowed this to happen.

The fact that it was all done in the close season helped the club I think. No-one was really willing to take a firm stand. Annis, who in fairness, has led every legitimate protest in recent years, and has been at the forefront in promoting the club, has taken a slight back seat with this one. After all - why should he always have to be the one to lead things? And in taking a slightly neutral stance, he is in both camps - he wants the club to play in blue, but respects those who still want the club to stay up.

I stand by my belief that I don't think the club will go up this season with the negativity that will haunt us through 46 games of football. I am still in favour of the Keep Cardiff Blue campaign because at least these people are sticking to principles. The guy who stood up and took a stance at the last meeting showed genuine commitment to a cause that I believe is worth fighting for.

It's incredible how quickly people accept things. After being on it for 5 years, I left facebook recently as I decided it was too much of a time-waster, but this website, where people share the most incredible details of their personal life with the world, is now accepted as the norm to the extent that the Daily Mail now call people who don't use facebook "psychos". There have been comparisons made between our acceptance of the re-branding and prostitution, and while I think this is going a bit far, it remains the case that not a single shred of evidence has been produced that the re-branding will be demonstrably benefitial.

Because of that, I remain commited to the Keep Cardiff Blue campaign, and I would urge all true Bluebirds to stay away from the re-opening "celebrations" and support the protest prior to the opening home game of the season.

I will never accept the stripping of our identity and will campaign to get it back in the future big time I promise. I spend more and more of the months of May/June/July and August abroad now and incoming years will be moving here, but I will always support Cardiff City. It's just a flight away and less than 2hrs. At the moment I setting up my future here, So I could not promise to make every meeting, Some how the 5 total meetings the Club and the Cardiff fans who wanted to keep Cardiff Blue had, I was able to be at them all.

Lets hope are club becomes debt free as promised and they put the £100 mill in to keep all the Cardiff fans who accepted it happy.
One day I believe we wiill def return with our identity as Mighty Bluebirds and our colour Blue again. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Them days are long gone, we have a new fanbase now, we still have a lot of the older generation but the club has moved on, KCB are ultimate hypocrites and think they're doing well when in fact they're making it annoying, acting like the victims.

We're not called the Red Bluebirds are we? We're called the Bluebirds. The club even refer to us as 'The Bluebirds'

Let's hope so Annis. I don't believe KCB really want to disrupt things, but I don't think there is any harm in showing a visible objection.

How quickly people turn -I am fairly sure that most people who say things like "it's getting boring now" just 2 months ago would have been in uproar at the rebranding.

A lot of people are not happy about losing our colours, badge and identity. We should not just roll over and give in.

The protests planned will not impact the players in the slightest. They are professionals.

Added to which, they know the protests are in no way aimed at them.
