That's about it really,or it was when I done mine 10 yrs ago.The test was based on what they taught us over the 2 days,no curveballs really. We had to go all the way to Watford to do ours. Can i ask where you planning on doing yours cos it's something i might do myself again at some point.Anywhere in South Wales?

get to know the terminology, distances, hand signals and what signal plates and colours mean.
Alot of it is common sense mate, once you have PTS try and get other qualifications to put on your card COSS, first aid, DP etc.
Rule of thumb being the more credits you have the more valuable you will be!?
You will def be asked safe distances from track when working and at what speeds
warnings
colour plates
Good luck

A lot of it is health and safety and getting to know terminologys when working on the railway with the track tools health and safety procedures etc, it's a piece of piss and the trainer more or less gives u all the answers u need in order to complete the course, there's a place in abercynon that run courses green light recruitment they are pretty good.. Good luck..

Just learn what your taught on the course, don't try and learn things off other people. I could give you a PTS handbook to learn from, but you will start to confuse yourself. You will be given a handbook on the course anyway. The course isn't difficult, it's just a lot to take in and a lot of unfamiliar terminology. Try and do the 10 day couse if you can instead of the 2 day. Opens more doors for you.
At the moment the rail industry is also quiet especially if your a new starter with no trade.
I've been on for almost 12 years, and I've got a few competencies and I am struggling for work at the moment ( mostly because of the Olympic embargo )
If there is anything you want to ask/know, I will be happy to help.
