Cardiff line up Liam Lawrence from Portsmouth

Wed Aug 08, 2012 11:17 am

we got plenty of midfielders already plus his wages are high didnt think much of him on his loan spell

Ugh, I don't think we need him tbh. Too similar to cowie, but not as good. With Kiss and Guns and mutch fighting it out for a CM role he's have to be a wide option? just doesnt seem like we need him.

He came to us injured and needed time to regain his fitness though and by the end of his loan I thought he was playing really well!

If we can get him on a free and for half of his reported £18,000 pw contract, I think he'd be worth having, even though we now seem to have a glut of midfield players atm!

Can we have a proper winger instead please.? Lawrence virtually a clone of Cowie . We astill need some pace on the flanks.

Agreed. Provides some strength in depth though.

He arrived like Scimeca did in 2006 unfit and struggled imo, but he is a class act at this level & if he can get fit then he could have the same impact as Ricci did the following season

Re: Liam Lawrence

Not for me thanks. His cost &/or wages could be better spent. We need more strength in defense & up front.

Cost??? We could get him for free on August 10 :ayatollah:

Re: Liam Lawrence

^^^ Wages. Think we need more cover in defense. However much he would be on i think it could be better spent else where.

Yeah I agree with that

I rate him,it took a while for him to get fit but once he was you could see what a good player he is.He'll add a lot of depth to the squad and it's along old season so could be useful for squad rotation and keep everyone fresher than that they were last season.

Exactly.Too many people on here are not looking at the bigger picture. Not just under Malky but under DJ too, when we had injuries/suspensions to our key players we never had the squad to cope.Even at the end of last season you could see that most of the players were running on empty.Signing Lawrence makes perfect sense. After years of a threadbare squad we will at last have strength in depth. It ain't just about your first choice eleven.

we need a CB not Liam Lawrence

Re: Liam Lawrence

If he's willing to take a wage cut then I'll take him, the bigger the squad the better :ayatollah:

a done deal, reason why lawrence is still with portsmouth taking their money right up until the last minute making it cheaper for cardiff

Re: Liam Lawrence

just seen this on twitter

Sleep football just tweeted

Leeds are interested in signing Portsmouth's Liam Lawrence - but only if the midfielder is willing to lessen his wage demands

might not be a done deal yet wouldnt be to bothered if he went else where

Shocked if this is true, never rated him and well over paid.
£20,000 a week, no thanks.

Re: Liam Lawrence

Wed Aug 08, 2012 4:56 pm

He won't be on £20k per week, if Portsmouth go bust he'd earn nothing and he's been trying to renegotiate a deal with Portsmouth who he's willing to stay at in League One so is clearly willing to take a pay cut.

Re: Liam Lawrence

Wed Aug 08, 2012 5:27 pm

You all moan that we lack width, then when we go for a wide player who put his all in for Cardiff on his loan spell and is familiar with Malky you don't want him?

Ungrateful bastards, Lawrence is quality! We're not signing Nani or Valencia any time soon!

Have to agree with you 100% Annis. Don't rate him at all. Offers nothing over and above what we already have. We already have excellent strength in depth in the middle of the park. We could put out two seperate midfields of Championship quality so we just don't need him. Apart from a super fast winger we don't need to add to our midfield but we do need another centre forward and TWO defenders (CB + FB). I will be disappointed if we do sign Lawrence as I will if we sign Tommy Smith (another player who adds nothing but commands a very high wage). Wages on these players could go towards someone like Nicky Maynard who is the type of player that would get 20+ goals with the likes of Kimbo, Bellamy, Whittingham and Helguson around him. :ayatollah:

This is getting boring but once gain I agree almost entirely with Moonboots. We just don't need Lawrence , althogh I think he is a decent player of his type.

Re: Liam Lawrence

He won't get near 20k that's why he is hanging into Pompey Until the very end.
5-7k max I would think. I still think he would be an asset now as a squad player.

Who says we don't want him?
If MM does then that's good enough for me.

Re: Liam Lawrence

Wed Aug 08, 2012 9:56 pm

I said a few months ago that I expected us to sign him but that we'd wait until the very last minute to do it.

No point in wasting wages when Pompey could be paying him. Even better if Pompey get liquidated, he has no way of expecting 20k a week then and no transfer fee.
