CARDIFF LINE UP LAWRENCE

Wed Aug 08, 2012 11:14 am

Portsmouth midfielder Liam Lawrence is a target for Championship side Cardiff City - where he spent three months on loan at the end of last season.
Lawrence, 30, is one of two senior players left at Fratton Park and Pompey need him off the wage bill to help bring them out of administration.
And the two clubs have resumed talks over a permanent move for Lawrence.
Bluebirds manager Malky Mackay admitted to being an admirer of Lawrence but would not confirm his interest.

He was a fantastic professional, he came in and did fantastic for me last season

Malky Mackay
"Liam did great for me last season," Mackay told BBC Radio Solent.
"He was a fantastic professional, he came in and did a fantastic job for me last season in the period he was at the club.
"He is a really good character, a good player and a great professional to have around.
"We've got targets that we want to bring into the club, but I can't say whether Liam is one of them."
Tal Ben Haim is the other senior player at Portsmouth - who need to clear their wage bill by 10 August or the club will be liquidated.

Happy to take him back aslong as he's taken a huge wage cut, a good personality and a bit more experience for the dressin room and also good back up

Well, he'd be cheap considering Pompey's situation.

But he would be a squad player and nothing more :old:

What a crap article.

"Portsmouth midfielder Liam Lawrence is a target for Championship side Cardiff City"

and then...

"We've got targets that we want to bring into the club, but I can't say whether Liam is one of them."

Lawrence is a very good player. Some people need to realise, when he came on loan, he was just returning from injury. But as his loan spell progressed, you can see he was getting better after each game. Last season we suffered with strength in depth, I cant see Lawrence in the starting line up, but at least it gives us a PLAN B.

Furthermore, his attitude was excellent, and could be great for the dressing room. :ayatollah:

Talking to my mate, who is off to AFC Wimbledon tonight for what could possibly be Pompeys last ever game...he reckons Lawrence will accept a big reduction in wages to save the club and wants to stay there to help re build...they have done remarkably well pre season and beat Bolton 3-0 but tonight could be the end for them and then Lawrence would be left in limbo and possibly a move to us more likely...but on lower wages than before.

People say we lack depth so Lawrence is an option.

our current midfield at the moment...

cowie, conway, kiss, mcphail, whitts, gunnarsson, kimbo, mutch, harris, ralls.. add to that a couple of the youngsters also mason as a player behind the front two, it would be difficult for lawrence to even get on the bench...

i would have him, but for very low wages.. i personally think we should now be looking at an extra defensive option.

We don't lack depth in midfield though

Cowie, Kiss, Ralls, Conway, McPhail, Mutch, Gunnarsson, Harris, Kim, and probably Bellamy.

I agree but in the pre-season games I think we have lacked options in midfield with a few injuries. Maybe after pre-season MM is concerned if Harris is ready or about mcphails fitness. 7 sub rule it wouldn't hurt to have him as long as its massively reduced wages.

you have a point...

the bench is the best i believe he would get. we have rightly lacked some options pre season, however kimbo will now be added, gunnarsson is now fit also, add to that the probability of bellamy and i think that will be more than enough.
