I've been looking at buying a place of my own recently, primarily for me to move into but am also toying with the idea of potentially buying with the view to renting it out. May sound a pretty basic question to some but I'm new to this kind of thing but who would be liable to pay the Council Tax, me as a landlord or the tennant?
Any info would be much appreciated.

Generally, the person living in the property pays the council tax.
Hope this helps

The tenant would be liable to pay his own council tax, although I believe you have to pay some sort of landlord tax, be sure that if you are getting a mortgage you let them know you may rent it out, there is a difference between a personal mortgage and a buy-to-let mortgage.

If you rent it out, try and keep it unfurnished. That way when there are void periods you can apply for an exemption certificate, so you wont have to pay any tax. Cardiff Council have people go round and check.
