MALKY TO NAME UNCHANGED TEAM

Mon Aug 06, 2012 7:34 am

MALKY Mackay is ready to send out an unchanged starting line-up for Cardiff City’s third pre-season match at AFC Bournemouth tomorrow.

He is likely to stick with the 11 who started against Oxford United in a 2-1 win at the Kassam Stadium.

The Bluebirds manager will not risk any of his players still in the treatment room, but said: “I am hopeful all of them will be ready for Saturday’s home game against Newcastle United.”

Aron Gunnarson (back), Joe Mason (ankle), Stephen McPhail (hamstring), Anthony Gerrard (calf) and Jordon Mutch (hip) all missed City’s 2-1 win at Oxford United and Mackay said: “All of them are training and close to fitness.

“If our match tomorrow was a Championship match then maybe we would have considered them, but at this stage of our preparations I will not take risks.

“Our preference is for them to have a full week’s training and be ready for the match at home against Newcastle this Saturday.”

Mackay will take his senior players to Bournemouth tomorrow, while a second group, mainly comprising younger professionals, will take on Barry Town at Jenner Park on Wednesday (7.30pm).

The match at Barry will launch celebrations for the Vale of Glamorgan club’s centenary season next week – and more than 1,000 tickets have already been sold.

Capacity for the pre-season match at Jenner Park on Wednesday has been set at 2,000 and tickets cost £5 adults, under-11s £3.
