Weakest position in our team?????

Fri Aug 03, 2012 6:15 pm

Two fullbacks for me, and a top draw Striker and watch us fly !!!!!!

McNaughton was poor last year and Taylor was not much better surely Malky can see that ???

I was very pleased with Taylor, LB is a hard position to fill.

Kev struggled a bit last season but I hav faith in him to come back.
We do need another fullback to challange them tho.

Yeah I'd say keeper, RB or a really prolific goal scorer

McNaughton is the best full-back in the division!

Everyone's obsessed with getting the perfect modern full-back these days, like Maicon, that can attack better than the winger but can't defend to save their life.

We should count ourselves lucky we have a full-back that gives 100% and never EVER gets beaten/taken on down his side. I can count the number of goals that have come down McNaughton's side since he's been at the club on one hand probably.

Malky will sign a righ back for sure, he has already tried, I will back his judgement thanks....

That's a good point about keeper, after a right back, keeper then third weakest left back IMO....

Don't get me wrong they are all ok, but weaker than players in all other positions....

What's wrong with Marshall? :?

Sure his kicking can be dodgy at times and he doesn't dominate his area aswell as he should for a man his size but his shot stopping is op class for a championship keeper.

It would cost millions to sign a batter keeper than him or Lewis and it would cause no end of bad feeling amongst the keepers if we have four vying for a starting place.

Full back is a position that should be miles higher on the list that Keeper. Keeper would be second last behind central midfielder for me!

Nothing is wrong with Marshall, you're right, he's a top class keeper. :ayatollah:

Surprised no one has said wingers. Haven't got Bellamy yet and Kimbo's unproven.

Yeah I know it's not an obvious one but despite being alot better last season, Marshall has a clanger in him and according to P'boro fans and watching some of the highlights of pre season games, it seems Joe Lewis does. I'm not in a desperate rush but left back and two central defenders are solid. We have a great midfield so it's RB a striker and a real commanding keeper. I

That had a lot to do with us playing very narrow and exposing the full-backs. If we play with proper wide men this season both Taylor (who did well any way IMO) and McNaughton will do far better next season.

Marshall one of the best shot stoppers in the league - international keeper.

Lewis One of the most highly rated young keepers in the league - U21's International keeper.

Cover keeper Parish from premiership reserves.

Hardly a weak position.....?

I'd say we are light at decent cover for Full backs.

Marshall isn't really an international keeper is he? Joe Lewis hasn't played for U21's for two seasons and Parish is totally unknown.

McNaughton was poor last season, but he will improve this season as mentioned above as hopefully we won't be playing so narrow.

Taylor isn't the best LB either. He got caught out plenty of times and got left too far forward on occasions too leaving a big hole down the wing. But, once again that will be fixed this season - but the FB's need some competition.

Re: Weakest position in our team?????

Fri Aug 03, 2012 7:03 pm

I couldn't care if he was an international keeper or not, he is still an excellent championship keeper.

Not only did Taylor get left too far forward, a lot of the time his head would be in the clouds and would be far too late to react to a player coming passed him leaving him on the wrong side far too often.

He'd be an international if he still played for Celtic or even if he played for Dundee United. The SFA are very SPL biased when it comes to players.

Assumptions assumptions...

Re: Weakest position in our team?????

Out wide, we still lack genuine pace. Granted it looks as though Bellamy is returning, but Kimbo doesn't exactly look like an out and out winger, more of a free role type of player. Not completly convinced by Conway either, although I am expecting better from him now he's injury free and had a season to settle in. Kadeem Harris is the complete unkown, so the jury is still out there. Bellamy would be a great addition but I still feel we need another pacey winger who can actually deliver a decent percentage of ball into the box, a Matt Phillips type of player would be perfect.

Re: Weakest position in our team?????

Fri Aug 03, 2012 7:10 pm

Marshall is a great shot stopper but I still worry about him coming out for corners, free-kicks etc.

He can be a bit of a flapper and can get pushed around a little too easily.

Re: Weakest position in our team?????

Fri Aug 03, 2012 7:12 pm

That's assuming MM will want to play with wingers every day.
We got in the play/offs using Mason and Cowie wide for a lot of games. I'm not saying they will be first choice out wide but we also have Harris, Kim, Conway and maybe Bellamy.
So a number of options.

Bellamy isnt the answer to all our prayers either, when he was first here I was so unimpressed by his final ball, the ammount of times he'd beat his man and either not look up or just plain get it all wrong. Don't get me wrong he's a great player, I just don't think we should assume that his addition is going to be enough out wide, we still need more IMO.

Good points about Bellamy, SeanJr. As for wingers, we should never have let Burkie go.
