What if the £10m set aside for the debt was not to pay it but for court costs and forensic accountants because he knows deep down he can win this battle in court. No one has thought of it this way yet.
Just because Tan had put 3 offer types on the table doesn't mean he was going to pay Sam. That could have been just sticking the bait in the ocean to see if the fish would bite. If Sam did bite surely Tan could use this against him in court i.e. 'Why would this man accept less if he knew legally he was entitled to a larger some? Surely something does not add up if he is willing to do this'.
Maybe the offers were made by Tan to get rid of Sam now but if needs be he'll happily go to court knowing he'll win.
He said he would invest £10m to RESOLVE the historic Langston debt. That may not mean pay it. Don't forget, if the club win in court we don't have to pay the debt or interest making us debt free. This could be the reason Tan is investing so much in analysis of the whole case so he can take Sam to court once he has found something, its plausible. That would mean the debt was wiped and only other debts to other creditors would have to be paid.

Makes no sense anyway, because If sam accepts £10m - or if £10m costs are for courts solicitors, and fees - then the Club (VT) are still forking out £10m ?
Just be easier to pay SH off in that case wouldn't it?

For this theory to work you must at least have some idea of what the loophole is?
The Courts would actually think more of Langston, not less, for accepting a lower amount as they would be deemed as 'reasonable' in pre-court negotiations.
As it stands the club have fully accepted liability for the Langston Loan Notes and only the date of payment is in dispute.
I admire your creativity RedBlueBird but this theory is a real no-goer.
