Derek McInnes couldn't hide his delight at securing the double swoop of Paul Anderson and Tom Heaton on free transfers.

Ex-Nottingham Forest winger Anderson yesterday agreed a two-year deal at Ashton Gate, and Heaton, formerly of Cardiff, has penned a year's contract with a further 12-month option.

Both players cited manager McInnes as the main reason behind their decision to choose BS3 as their latest step on their career path.

Heaton said: "It's been a long summer with lots of clubs talking to me, so I was glad to just sit down with the manager here and get something done.

"I know a bit about Bristol City because I was only just over the bridge in Cardiff for a number of years. I've been sold on the ambition of the club and the gaffer."

Anderson commented: "I'm pleased to be here. There's been a lot of interest. The gaffer has been fantastic and I'm looking forward to working with him.

"I've got lots of experience in this league. Last season didn't go well for me, with all the problems going on at Forest.

"You'll have to ask the gaffer what position I'll play. I like playing from the left, even though I'm right-footed, but can also play on the right wing and in behind the strikers."

McInnes said: "We're pleased to get these two lads over the line and they'll join us in Scotland now.

"Both are of a decent age and pedigree; both are on free transfers as well.

"We've got other irons in the fire too, and I'm hoping to get one or two more in before the season begins."

good luck to him :ayatollah:

I genuinely believed he should've been our number 1, he deserves regular football, one of the best keepers in the Championship. He'll get a good reception at Ashton Gate from us! Good luck to him. :ayatollah:

Good luck to him.

Surprised he struggled to get a club but clearly other managers don't rate him as highly as us.

I have always considered them our biggest rivals. Then again, I live and work in Gloucestershire so I'm surrounded by the inbred fuckers which fuels my hatred

I wish there was more to our derby but I'm being honest now, it doesn't feel like a rivalry, it's NOTHING compared to when we play Swansea these days. If Bristol City are our rivals then we'd sell out against them and they'd sell out against us, but the attendances don't increase at all when we play them. If they were a promotion challenging team then it would be a little better.

Why are people saying we shouldnt have let him go?? He wouldnt sign a new contract so not a lot we could do

Good luck Tom, the better keeper of him and Marshall IMHO but there wasn't a lot we could do to stop him from going unfortunately other than give him the number 1 shirt which I would have done but there you go.
He will certainly get a great reception from me both at CCS and at Trashton Gate.
Respect Heaton :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

i dont know what deal was on the table, maybe he just wanted to play first team football, but its a shame that he has gone... :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

All the best to him. Personally I preffered him to Marshall but cant blame the guy for wanting first team action.

Too good a keeper to be sitting in the bench.

Still a derby just no-one cares which is sad because we should make more of the fixture!

Best of luck to him, he got us some history making the final not taking the effort away in the second leg from everyone! :ayatollah:
He was a great man off the pitch and he will get games their and will get a great reception in August and at home! :)
Always remember him here in fairness!
I'm happy he was on a free because I would be extremley pissed if we were dealing with our rivals be sinking low in my opinion! :ayatollah:
