A forum for all things Cardiff City

His call comes after around 120 Cardiff supporters attended a public meeting called by members of Keep Cardiff Blue (KCB), a campaign group set up to oppose the rebranding decision by the club’s Malaysian backer Vincent Tan.
There were heated exchanges during a meeting and that has sparked fears of problems at the Bluebirds’ opening Championship home match against Huddersfield Town on Friday, August 17, which is being shown on Sky television.
“Everybody must calm down and do what they can to unite behind the team,” said Borley. “Supporters must wear shirts of any colour they choose when it comes to that first match against Huddersfield, whether it’s blue, red or something else.
“Nobody should be abused for the colour of their shirt and I don’t believe anybody will be.
“People have to get things back into perspective. I can’t endorse anybody who does anything which could potentially harm the football club.
“We have supported our club over the years in a variety of colours which cover the whole rainbow.
“We’ve been to Wembley Stadium twice and played in black. There was no issue then and for me there is no issue this time.
“We’ve been through too much rubbish over far too many years to get upset over whether it’s blue, red, green, purple or whatever.”
This week’s public meeting was organised by the Keep Cardiff Blue campaign, who issued a statement, saying: “We are concerned the meeting to discuss protest plans was disrupted and eventually curtailed due to intimidation from a small group who, in their own words, ‘unconditionally’ backed the club’s re-brand plans.
“The threats and intimidation will do nothing but galvanise the Keep Cardiff Blue campaign and we will continue to explore and plan lawful ways to protest against the destruction of the club’s identity.
“Indeed, we have received much fresh or renewed support as the events of the meeting have been reported.
“However, we call upon the club to condemn these threats against supporters and ask them to publicly guarantee they will do everything possible to ensure their security in and around the ground.”
Kevin Murphy, a Cardiff fan for almost 50 years, was involved in angry exchanges at the KCB meeting, but said: “It’s Cardiff City unconditional – we want the best for our football club.
“Just follow your football club. We want the Bluebirds to succeed.
“People are entitled to have their own view and if there is a protest outside the stadium before the match against Huddersfield that’s fine.
“But it should not impact on the team or the match for the start of a huge season for Cardiff City.
“Those who have handed in their season tickets and don’t want to go to matches have made their protest and they should let those who want to attend matches get on with it.
“I will be in the stadium backing my team to win and I want to see everybody else there, whether they are wearing red, blue or any colour, doing likewise.
“Malky Mackay and the players deserve that support. A lot of things have been said on message boards, but we have to start thinking of the team.
“The Malaysians, and Vincent Tan in particular, are willing to pay off debts which were there when they came in, they are backing manager Malky Mackay’s plans to strengthen the team and they want to take our club forward.
“The only thing they want in return is that Cardiff City play in red.
“I am certainly not pro-red, I don’t like the colour. But I support Cardiff City and that’s what I will be doing throughout next season.”

“We have supported our club over the years in a variety of colours which cover the whole rainbow.
“We’ve been to Wembley Stadium twice and played in black. There was no issue then and for me there is no issue this time."You recognise a football club for their primary colour, not their alternative kits.
Every club has got an identity and everyone recognises that, for example:
Man Utd - Red
Leicester - Blue
Man City - Blue
Blackpool - Tangerine
West Ham - Claret/Blue
Celtic - Green/White etc
It's more than just a colour and that's what the issue is.
Other than that though I agree with Steve, we need to get behind the team regardless of what's happened. Bring on August.

Urm, Liverpool used to play in blue and Everton played at Anfield which is now massively associated with Liverpool. You're remembered for the colours you were successful in. Lets face it, we have never been massively successful in blue. 1 FA cup win in over a century. Yes it is a great honour but nothing major and we can still remember it.
Liverpool will be remembered in red and Anfield because of success.
United will be remembered in red because of success.
Leeds will be remembered in white because of success.
Barca will be remembered in their strip because of success.
Clubs are recognised by the kits they were successful in. If we win the league in red and then stay up and have a good cup run etc. we'll be known around the world by most people as a team who play in red. Most wont even associate blue with us. Only us, because we know the history.

I'm saying that it's a big deal to us and it would be to any other club.

Totally agree, Steve has cocked up this time, yes we played in black, white red, yellow etc., but it is about our primary colour which is blue. and if he thinks it is all over he must be living in cloud cuckoo land, unfortunately it has'nt even started yet, proves that by the morons who went to the meeting that had nothing to do with them.

Sorry Steve Borley just does not get it. Or more likely he was told what tgo say by VT. This is only the start and if VT thinks it will go away he is deluded.
Thu Jul 26, 2012 6:46 pm
It won't go away as it is a deeply emotive issue.
I wonder if Vincent Tan is aware of what he has done.
Thu Jul 26, 2012 9:58 pm
Thats right Borley you will just say anything these days to help protect the share price
