Why do football fans get blamed

Sun Jul 15, 2012 11:48 am

After the events at Newbury races football fans are blamed Why can't other sports take responsibility for trouble caused at their events rather than taking the easy route and blaming others. I have been at a few race meetings where fights have broken out in fact I think I have seen more fights at the races than I have seen at football over recent years.

what ever happened these people are at the low end of society but in this instance where clearly race goers on this day and not football fans

Agree with this . The people involved may or may not follow football. But when they are at the racing they are race fans. There is increasing violence at racecourses due in large part to the huge amount of drink consumed. Racecourses actively encourage this drinking as it brings in large profits. It is nothing to do with football . Pointing the finger at football fans simply allows the racecourse to evade their responsibilities

Yes I am sure it was the football rivalry that caused it , which is sad that grown men do this and even more sad is the boasting on the website Like being back in the school yard by Dad is harder than your Dad.
However the race game needs to look at it's self as well fighting at racing is becoming more common and this is not an isolated event

lads on the bladder all day .i doubt the trouble at race meets has anything to do with regular race goers.more likely lads who go to races now and then.

I'm in a racing syndicate called 'Bluebirds Racing' I'd hate to think that if we went to a meeting people would think we had anything to do with this.

Maybe the football club they support could have something to do with it, but its most likely these guys would be fighting for another cause of they had the chance, especially when there is beer involved. Where the blame should be allocated would depend on how its started. I know I would stick up for my mate if he was jumped by a group no matter where they were from.

Also, if its given that there was a coach load from each city there then the majority have chosen not to get involved.

Its nothng new mind, I remember going to a meet in Doncaster about 1992-93 when I lived in Nottingham, and there were 2 buses from different Yorkshire towns parked next to us. Sat on the bus tucking into my grub I looked up and they were all piling off each bus and scrapping in the dirt in the car park. Extra entertainment topped off a brilliant day. Fair play to them, at least they didnt do it in the grandstand and spoil the day for others.

You are right though, this shouldn't be treated as its anything to do with the football club.
