Bluebirds expect big things of Kadeem Harris

Sat Jul 07, 2012 12:28 pm

WINGER Kadeem Harris will be given his chance to shine for the Bluebirds during 2012-13.

Manager Malky Mackay is backing the teenage pace ace to become a hit for Cardiff City and says: “The coaching staff think highly of Kadeem – we believe he has a really positive future.”

Harris, 19, signed for City in a £150,000 transfer from League One Wycombe in January, but has not yet made a first-team appearance.

“We wanted to give Kadeem his debut and if the circumstances had been different he would have played,” says Mackay.

“I want to set him running in the Championship and he will be given his chance.

“Kadeem has the right attitude and the ability needed to succeed. He is a good person and has the character to learn and progress.

“He came to Cardiff with a zest for training, smiles every day and is desperate to improve his game.

“His chance will come and I believe Kadeem will be an extremely good player for this club over the next few years.”

Harris became a judo black belt before he turned to football and was spotted by Paul Lambert, then Wycombe manager and today in charge at Aston Villa.

Wycombe gave Harris his first team debut at the age of 16 years, 201 days and he played 26 matches before joining Cardiff and committing to a contract through to the summer of 2015.

“The gaffer (Malky Mackay) shows a lot of confidence and trust in young players,” says Harris.

“I want to break into the starting line-up and make my mark. I am confident, but not arrogant.”

Harris and his Cardiff City clubmates report back for the start of pre-season training next Wednesday, while he will hope to be selected in the party heading for Switzerland next weekend.

Mackay takes his players to the Uefa headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland, on the northern shore of Lake Geneva, for a week before their first match, at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, July 28.

I am not sure what Malky refers to when he says if the circumstances were different. Yes, we were pushing for promotion last season but there were many games where we could not open up defences and we were desperately lacking pace and width. Perhaps it would have been worthwhile to give Kadeem 15 - 20 mins off the bench then.

I reckon it was down to the stupid rule for a maximum 5 subs that meant he wasn't chosen on the bench.

Thankfully, that stupid rule has been overturned back to 7 subs, and more options for the manager.

From what i've heard he's one of those old fashioned "f**k you mate, your having it" type
of wingers who isnt scared to push the ball past the full back and do him for pace. In all
fairness to Conway who suffered a fair bit with injury last season, he was never really
renowned for his blistering pace. Nor was Burke.

If we can just get a winger who is as fast as Andy Jordan was on the overlap....

we'll be ok!!! :? :? :?
