Below is a response to I posted to another Arthritis , ( Ankyosling Spondylitis )link I cant tell you how important it is to go talk to your GP and Demand to see a rheumatologist. If you need a name of a great one get back to me. But dont give up there are things they can do for you that will get you back to work. BUT DONT ! let your Doc Talk you into taken anti inflammatorys, As in the end you will then get problems with your Kidneys. anyway hope what I wrote below helps you. :old:

OK, When I was in school many years ago ! I was always doing some kind of sport, played Football and was approached by Bristol to sign forms, also play Rugby and our team won the school boys cup unbeaten all season and was ask to go train with Newport Rugby. After leaving school I kept up playing and even took up badminton, and later took up Tae kwondo well before Bruce Lee was even heard of, won the first every Welsh championship in Barry . It was then I was getting pain in mt lower back, I had pain there for years but always work past it.

This time I was told by specialist at the UHW that I had Ankylosing spondylitisi http://www.nass.co.uk/ , In time it went all over my joints and still have great pain now Im a lot older. I had an op last year and had a complete knee replacemnet, one thing I would say to you is 1st you MUST ask your Doc to be refered to a rheumatologist THIS IS A MUST!!!
Now they may offer you anti inflammatory, TAKE CARE! cos long term they can give you kidney problems.

Then you have cortisone injection, again not a good thing and only very short term treatment, they shouldnt be taken all the time. Athritis can come in many forms and all very painful, But the very first thing to do is get to your GP and dont ask, TELL HIM! that you want to see a Rheumatologist. It maybe that its not Athritis ,but it could be a cyst in your knee, its pretty common. Also there are foods you can try that are Anti Inflammatory foods, here is a link http://nutrition.about.com/od/dietsform ... amfood.htm BUT! dont think you can eat them and it will go straight away, it takes a long time for them to get into your system and help IF IN FACT THEY DO HELP ! I say that cos some people it may work for other may not. Good luck and I hope some of this may help you. BUT YOU MUST MUST MUST go to your GP and demand to see a Rheumatologist that is if it really is Arthritis you have.

I have had 13 operations for arthritis and now am on the list for a new hip. Anti inflamitories I found have helped me and I've been taking them for 25 years or so.with no ill affect, pluss plenty of other pain killers. Stronbow helps the pain mind you.

Anti Inflams will help , but they will also affect your kidneys in time,( I been taken Anti Inflams for well over 40 years) the only time you will fined this out is when you have a blood test. Im now waiting to go on Anti T N F ,(these are injections that I will have to take every week for the rest of my life,) that knocks out the immune system, which is as you can Image n dangerous but its the only thing left to me.

Of course they may ask you to go on Steroids, but they will make you put on weight ,which in turn is bad as the more weight you carry the more you cause a problem on your Arthritis. Also they may offer you Steroid injection, the only problem is it only last for a few days.

ive had this for the past ten years ..mine is very aggresive, pain killers dont really work( just gives me a fuzzie head),im on a injection treatment Anti TNF Enbrel, (it get deliverd once a month) which fights against the inflamation ( holds back the process of the bones fusing together). it took 6 year before i was condsidered for this treatment & you have to meet cetain markers...but as for pain killers not a lot help, ankylosing spondylitis is a strange thing, you have all the arthritis pains differant place every day,but you get the inflamation build up which fuses your joints together (neck pelviss, knees ankles) but also getfatigued /tiredness very quickly ..try naproxan///sometimes help.if you have any other question pm me> :ayatollah:

Not all anti infams will work, because with ankylosing spondylitis comes bowel problems and certain infalms make these problem a lot worse..ankylosing spondylitis is not just arthritis, it inflamation bulid up which will in a lot of cases will force your neck and back forward (sort of giving you humb back ) the bowel thing can be a pain and one of the other things is the fatigue & tiredness it comes on so quickly..like my pelviss and neck are fused , im having a lot of probelms with my knees and ankles...it a nightmare but you just need to get on with thing as best you can
