I wonder if they consulted any fans before deciding on the new kit.

I am all for progress but why do all owners want their teams to look like Liverpool or Man United?

The season before last, in division 1, Southamptons home playing strip was all white with a single diagonal red strip across the shirt.

Also their playing strip in the 80's, whilst red and white, didn't feature the red and white vertical strips. Their 1985 playing strip was plain red with white epaulets. All the changes including the all white strip the season before last have been embraced by the majority of Saints fans.

The club crest didn't appear on their playing strip until the mid 70's, following a design competition for the fans, since then the background has changed either a disc, badge on just the crest embroidered on the shirt.

Hopefully the fans group the club is about to create will be able to achieve the same for us, a crest designed by fans for the fans.

agree about badge, and while soton have had many different shirt styles, the colour scheme has still been adopted in a red format...

The badge or crest is the best opportunity to bring the fans closer on this issue and I just hope the board allow the designs created by the fans forum to be put to ALL season ticket holders. And the winning crest adopted.

As regards Southampton the season before last 90% of the strip was "White", which was the original playing strip of the club between 1885-89.

totally agree with you, i dont really see why the saints fans though are fuming with the kit... its a slight deviation but it is still red, our kit change is more of a controversial one. soton with white, white and red, red and white, red with white its a similar principle and they can still be distinguised as southampton..

Who are they to moan when you see what's happening here? They weren't in stripes during 2010/11.

Re: Southampton

Thu Jul 05, 2012 2:12 pm

why are they wearing Aberdeen's kit? at least its still their colours and even more important, the badge

Re: Southampton

Thu Jul 05, 2012 3:24 pm

At least their club colours are still red and white with the same badge and they still wear red at home.

Agree we have been dealt with the worse deal here and even though there changes a far less radical some of there fans hate it so you can understand why are fans have gone nuts. Its all bollocks these people who own football clubs part time and then move on are ripping the game to shreds and they dont give a fuxk about the fans.

Re: Southampton

I don't think the concerns are with the change in style/colours itself, just that it looks terrible, if you're going to change something at least do it right it's the same with the new Cardiff badge which is terrible.

Re: Southampton

Thu Jul 05, 2012 5:18 pm

There is absolutely nothing in common with our change, they've gone from red AND white stripes to red WITH white stripes and same badge. We however have changed beyond recognition
