RANGERS WILL NOT BE IN THE SPL!

Wed Jul 04, 2012 1:20 pm

This season.

The SPL has stated recently. All clubs have voted against the Newco Rangers competing in the SPL this season, and that is that!

Dear me.....

Good.

Now they just have to leave them to rot in the 3rd division while fixing the league structure.

So what's happened to the original Rangers? And what happens to the players? All confusing and terrible news. The Scottish league is shite as it is, now without Rangers...

Well, justice has been served, worried that this is just another nail in the coffin for Scottish football though.

On the other hand, this could be the start of a revolution in the Scottish game? If it can happen to an institution like Rangers then maybe the other clubs will get their act together, start bringing young Scots players through instead of buying foreign no marks and mercenaries? Who knows? It might eventually be a good thing.

Rangers as we knew it is in the process of being liquidated. The players had the option of transferring to the NewCo or leaving, as some have done.

I expect the NewCo will now apply for membership of the Scottish Football League.

The Scottish League is shit - because of Rangers and Celtic. Spending money money they don't have, forming a breakaway league in the 90's, allowing teams to join if they met certain requirements, which caused all the clubs deep into debt as they had to build stands that their attendances didn't justify, just to be part of the little elite group. The voting structure set up to suit Celtic & Rangers. How the mighty have fallen "for every £5 Celtic spend, we'll spend £10" and look where it got them.

It's been on the cards for years, Celtic & Hearts should now be worried, amongst others up here.

Had to happen Craig and this is just the start because by right they now have to start at the bottom of the Scottish league pyramid.

That's exactly what I expect the Scottish League clubs to vote for next season when they have their turn next week.

I usually try and get to a Hearts match when I'm back in Edinburgh and realise that they have massive problems, I thought that Celtic were fairly well run these days though?

They are well run, but they do have debts which Desmond basically guarantees. If he gets fed up or whatever, I reckon they would be in the shit too - like Hearts & Romanov. The SPL is a mess but the clubs have only themselves to blame. The formation of the SPL was viewed by many as a death knell for Scottish football at the time, yet the clubs with the biggest problems now are those in the SPL

I'm absolutely stunned that clubs were budgeting for Sky/ESPN cash and visits from Rangers when this has been on the cards for almost 6 months. I'm glad the SPL clubs have shown some balls today though, I really thought they were going to cave in the longer it dragged on.

In the long term this might be the eyeopener that the whole of Scottish football needs then?

That's certainly the way I'd like to look at it. There is no doubt it will be tough for some clubs, but they should be able to adjust and hopefully make the league more competitive long term. Some clubs could really kick on and be in a strong position if a NewCo were to eventually make it to the SPL

Any chance of them starting back up in the english pyramid? Could that happen? Or not a chance? Don't no anything about the rules and regulations but maybe its worth them having a go at entering the english leagues.

Apparantly Celtic were in talks with the Football League a few months back about joining League 1 , talks never really got off the ground . So cant see anybody not already in English pyramid ever joining tbh ?

Highly unlikely to happen, the Football League clubs wouldn't allow it.

As for up here, they have to apply for SFL membership before any vote takes place.

I want them to start at the bottom

They are banned from europe for 3 seasons so it could be great for scottish football and sky - watching them start their journey from bottom to top.
5k away fans to watch v montrose or stranraer - would be awsome - like when Napolio climbed back in Italy.

go on Rangers - start at the bottom and smash them all

how many players do they have left?

Don't know enough to pass comment BUT are you suprised that Celtic voted AGAINST Rangers staying in the SPL. Have they got the most to lose without the Derbies and associated T.V. revenue?

Slightly surprised because I do believe they have more to lose than most. More surprised at Kilmarnock who abstained. The rest did the right thing, even though it could be costly. Losing fans would have been more costly though.

several SFL clubs have already stated they will vote against the Newco starting in Div 1, so the SFL will vote on Newco on the 12th of July... now THAT could be interesting, Rangers fans in tears on the 12th of July... :D

wonder if they still march afterwards... ;)
