The SPL has stated recently. All clubs have voted against the Newco Rangers competing in the SPL this season, and that is that!

Rangers as we knew it is in the process of being liquidated. The players had the option of transferring to the NewCo or leaving, as some have done.
I expect the NewCo will now apply for membership of the Scottish Football League.
The Scottish League is shit - because of Rangers and Celtic. Spending money money they don't have, forming a breakaway league in the 90's, allowing teams to join if they met certain requirements, which caused all the clubs deep into debt as they had to build stands that their attendances didn't justify, just to be part of the little elite group. The voting structure set up to suit Celtic & Rangers. How the mighty have fallen "for every £5 Celtic spend, we'll spend £10" and look where it got them.
It's been on the cards for years, Celtic & Hearts should now be worried, amongst others up here.

I usually try and get to a Hearts match when I'm back in Edinburgh and realise that they have massive problems, I thought that Celtic were fairly well run these days though?

They are well run, but they do have debts which Desmond basically guarantees. If he gets fed up or whatever, I reckon they would be in the shit too - like Hearts & Romanov. The SPL is a mess but the clubs have only themselves to blame. The formation of the SPL was viewed by many as a death knell for Scottish football at the time, yet the clubs with the biggest problems now are those in the SPL
I'm absolutely stunned that clubs were budgeting for Sky/ESPN cash and visits from Rangers when this has been on the cards for almost 6 months. I'm glad the SPL clubs have shown some balls today though, I really thought they were going to cave in the longer it dragged on.

In the long term this might be the eyeopener that the whole of Scottish football needs then?

Don't know enough to pass comment BUT are you suprised that Celtic voted AGAINST Rangers staying in the SPL. Have they got the most to lose without the Derbies and associated T.V. revenue?
