Is Tan really a business messiah ?

Tue Jul 03, 2012 7:12 am

I have read many posts recently in relation to fans thinking VT can do no wrong. The Berjaya Group recently lost its bid for a betting license from the Malaysian government and its shares plummeted by almost a quarter as a result. See link. http://www.forbes.com/profile/vincent-tan/

March 2012

Self-made entrepreneur runs conglomerate Berjaya Group, but fortune sank by almost a quarter over the past year as shares stumbled. Owns social networking website Friendster.com and bought shares of Facebook through his Internet company, MOL.com. Failed to get a sports betting license from the government. Hates golf but loves scuba diving and working out at the gym.

According to the article, Tan has 11 children so if he ever gets divorced and the Malaysian version of the CSA get their hooks into him then our investment will be screwed.

He was set to get a betting licence days after our play-off loss to Blackpool.

However, do to protests by the Muslim majority in Malaysia his betting licence was revoked. He is due to get it back next year providing the ruling UMNO party are reelected in the May 2013 General Election.

Thanks for the sarcasm. I do not profess to know a lot about big business but when nearly a quarter is wiped off the share value of your company then it is obvious that the markets have judged your company to be vunerable to whatever has caused the drop.
The drop is perhaps not just down to the loss of the betting license but it could be a stock market reaction in relation to the unveiling of the new Cardiff shirt and badge

Yes you are right Tony. A quarter off the value of your company just shows that the Berjaya group although large, is still vunerable. :ayatollah:

I think that the credentials of any businessman would be questioned if nearly a quarter of the value of his company had been lost. The Asian markets are the ones driving the share price and who are asking questions of the Beraja Group. The share price does not lie. :ayatollah:

and what is sniping???? from what I understand it would be doing it from behind someone's back, if I have a different view I put it straight out in the open and am direct. I've messaged Annis privately about that and I doubt he would be bullied by many if any

Funnily enough I find Annis is open and direct yet because his viewpoint isnt one you share you are chipping away at him??

Double standards dont you think? Lord?

Look, I got it wrong, I got frustrated at all the anti VT & TG and Pro-blue (or whatever you want to call it) propoganda that was constantly being pumped. I wanted the other side of the argument to be given as much of an audience as the one above was (which is where my faith came in; equality and standing up for things and the 'other' side etc.) now perhaps where I went a bit astray is the way in which I did it which I can hold my hands up too and try and tackle differently next time. I saw it more as fighting for an alternative view rather than bullying.

Me and Annis have had long telephone discussions about things in the past and have talked about some of the things we've discussed previously on here. I've not devoted my life to chip chip chipping away and have made plenty of other contributions, some along the similar lines as Annis and others not. I just like to consider all alternatives rather than having one view constantly push push pushed. When we've talked we've both seen where each other has been coming from and both can appreciate the other's view point, perhaps a message board isn't always the best medium by which to have these discussion either?!?!

The way I see it, its Annis board he can promote, stick and delete what he likes.

Its not an official board of the club so why should he promote red in the interest of fairness? Especially when he cannot stand the idea.

Does Natman promote Pro Aethiest / Anti christ articles on his Christianity blog in the Interest of fairness?

I dont think so.

A blog is for expressing a person's view or thoughts on a subject. So if Annis has a blog then fair play. However on my board, then yes I would welcome those kinds of posts, the way I see it is there should be balanced debate so how can I edit, block or delete other people's posts just because they don't agree with mine???
