We don’t support blue, it’s Cardiff City we support, so less emotion please

A few short years ago, just prior to the coming of Sam Hammam, I would sit in the Ninian Park stand on match day holding friendly wagers with my sons on the attendance at the approaching kick-off time.

Up to 70% off at eBay Fashion Outlet

Being an optimist I would always bet on the figure exceeding 4,000. Needless to say I lost more than I won as attendances between 2,500 and 4,500 were the norm. Those were the days when bumper crowds only featured for a Boxing Day game or the visit of the old enemy.

Those were the days when a succession of owners tore their hair out attempting to attract people into the virtually empty match day stands.

Fast forward those few short years and I am amazed at how many thousands of “life long faithful supporters” are venting their fury at the new shirt change. Many of these “life long faithfuls” supported City only through reading the daily and Sunday newspapers and would have had no idea of the team colours had they not been aware of the nickname Bluebirds.

In those not so far-off days of the missing thousands, many excuses were made to avoid attending, the biggest of which from these so called arm chair supporters was; “I’ll never watch the City, they have no ambition, I stopped going when they sold John Toshack”.

The few of us who did turn up at Ninian Park in those dark days wouldn’t have cared what colour we played in provided it attracted a few more people through the turnstiles and true supporters, apart from genuine feelings of nostalgia, should not insist on making the colour change so emotive. We have not supported blue all these years, we’ve supported Cardiff City

Good post , but like me you'll be shot down. Someone will (re)post that they've had a season ticket since 1927 and we will fall by the wayside. I'M ADAMANT THAT NO ONE WANTS RED , BUT FFS LET'S DO IT FROM WITHIN

That's what I think. Go with the flow...get the dosh and see where that takes us....then campaign like mad to go back to the blue shirt and old badge. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I was part of the 5000, but not part of the 4000. College, playing football, girls, drinking all seemed more fun in my cash strapped years. I never gave up following city (in my eyes) through the media and workmates who still went down.

I have only recently returned (although done the Eddie May years) through my kids who love it. Its not the same, it is modern football. There is no edge to the atmosphere, hardly any swearing in the chants (if you can hear them) ,sanitised clean stadium, but I still scream when we score, and the look of excitement in my 10 year old eyes when I told her bellers may be on his way back reminds me its still CARDIFF CITY and I am just getting older and grumpier.

Being older has taught me its just a shirt, just a different colour to the one we played in when we were in the dungeon.

I don't understand why they have done it, it makes little sense to me, but my kids can't wait for their first (and mine) season ticket to come through the letterbox.

I have no reason to doubt you buddy, but don't you see the irony that you have posted another 'I was there in the dungeon' thread?

For the life of me I fail to understand why being around in the 70's 80's 90's is so important?

The rebrand is happening now and it is quite right that present day season ticket holders/regular supporters should have a say.
