Birmingham City: Jordon Mutch on why he left Blues

by Colin Tattum, Birmingham MailJun 26th June 2012.

JORDON Mutch has spoken of his ‘shock’ at the sudden transfer to Cardiff City.

The midfielder joined the Welsh club on Friday night in a deal worth up to £3 million after a whirlwind couple of days.

“It was a shock, it came out of the blue,” Mutch admitted to the Birmingham Mail.

“It all happened very quickly. I didn’t ask to leave but Cardiff came in and agreed a fee, and then it was my side of it.

“That was sorted, I had a medical and it was done. That’s all I can say on it, really, it happened in a couple of days.”

Mutch admitted that he had been preparing for next season at Blues with the intention of making up for May’s Championship play-off heartache.

Instead he will now be trying to help the other losing semi-finalists achieve promotion.

“At the end of a season any player goes away in the summer and reflects on what they can do better the next season.

“When I came back last year I was really, really flying. I had a good pre-season and in the first few games I felt strong, really fit and sharp.

“After my injury, which was a freak accident (Mutch broke his ankle in training before the Europa League play-off in August), I came back but was still having some niggles and problems with it.

“I wasn’t moving the same, but with three pins in there, it was going to take while to get back to normal. So that was a bit disappointing for me.

Three pins in his ankle

Well. Ben Turner had been injury prone and had a bad few seasons before we bought
him in and he's held up admirably. We can only hope Malky's 'homework' Dept have got
it right again.

But i'm crossing my six fingers

id be very surprised if the fee was near 3 mill
perhaps brum fans putting a positive spin on the fact that one of their young stars has gone to a championship rival

Yeh I think we all have a tendency to do that when we're pissed off
about a player leaving!!!! I think we've got a gem here :D

Or is it £300,000 in 3 instalments = £900,000 then plus all the add ons? £3 mill seems a hell of a lot but £900,000 seems low ????

Oh I don't know

He says it was a freak injury so he may not be injury prone. It doesn't sound like a recurring injury

Talking to a Brum season ticket holder in work he claims he is a fantastic signing. I mentioned Whitts may be on his way out and he said you wont miss him with this lad in the team. He said that the only complaint with some fans were he is a fine passer of the ball and likes to threads balls through pinpoint style, but now and again the passes dont get through and opposition break away, but on the whole he said its an incredible signing for us and the lad is a fantastic player.
