The Atkins diet

Sun Jun 24, 2012 1:42 pm

Right my wife tells me I'm basically a fat lazy b*stard, which is I'm afraid a 100% fact. I'm gonna give the Atkins diet a try, I'm not looking for horror stories about the diet or how a fitness based, calorie controlled diet is better, I'm aware of all that.
What I wanna know is, has anybody had an success with it, and some example menus that you have eaten, I hate websites telling me to eat crap I don't want like avacardo are all that stuff. Gimme some valley boy menus!
Cheers lads. :ayatollah:

Apparently it does work if stick rigidly to the diet. The problem is you have to check the Carbohydrate content of everything you eat.

For example it is OK to eat a burger, provided you throw the bun away :o

Also there are no Chips, Potato's, Rice or Pasta allowed.

On the up you can eat Bacon, Sausages, Eggs and Chicken.

It is mainly a protien diet desgined to starve the body of its favoured fuels, Sugar and Carbohydrates.

Its still the best diet and the only one i can do

Just wrap cheeese in a bit of ham to take to work to anack on

then have pepparami at hand --Tea and a few pints are ok

then get stuck into the chicken meat and steak with a few beansprouts an omelleete and onions each night.

Simple --we get fat because we all eat too much cakes bread biscuits choccy and spuds--

After youve had so much meat throughout the day you actually begin to eat less --theres only so much meat you can stand.

Forget the salad and fruit arses--Fruit is all sugar and its a myth that its good for you

Dont forget the chicken curry without rice and the soya..

The thought of being restricted to bacon and egg in the morning is appealing to a lard arse like me

I eat very few carbs and it does work, it's not easy to do but once you get into the swing it's not to bad. Slow runs just above walking pace is another great way to shed pounds :ayatollah:

Rather than go full Atkins try going no carb after 4pm and eat low gi carbs like wholemeal bread etc.

You need a balanced diet so id be wary of ditching carbs completely.

And after all the good advice above its worth remembering that the inventor of this diet died a few years ago-from heart disease  something they tried to cover up at the time for obvious commercial reasons.

I'm not going to do it long term, 1 more week for a decent weight loss then move into a more balanced diet (that I already have prepared) If nothing else if gained a good understanding of carbs this week for future healthier eating.

Tried it for 3 days .. Constipated and bad breadth .
The Atkins plays on the notion that Carbs are bad for you but it's really all about cutting down on process food a d reducing your sugar and salt intake.
Carbs are present in fruit and veg and these are fine. There is also good fats as well as bad fats.
I lost 3 stone in 5 months by eating sensibly and doing some exercise.
1.Reduce red meat intake and eat white meat and fish.
2.Cut out and reduce process food ... Bread(white) , cheese , sausages , butter etc.
3. Cut out Pizzas , curries which are high in fat.

It's right what they say about breakfast also .... It's the most important meal of the day !

10 years ago I lost 3 stone, in just under 4 months. But I put it all back on
I tried it again recently only for a month lost a stone, but put it all back on.
So now I have found the perfect diet , it allows you to eat anything you want, and as much as you want. it does work, the only down side is you cant swollow

If you back to eating what you did before the diet then naturally you will put the weight on.

It's all about changing your eating habits . FAD diets like the Atkins can be dangerous as they starve you of vitamins and minerals that your body needs and makes you feel lethargic .

Eat less and exercise more. Atkins is dangerous for your health, people have died from following it. :old:

For fast weight loss, the atkins/low-carb diet works in the short-term, no question about that.
